Yogasleep began in 1962 as a sleep accessory company called Marpac that specialized in white noise machines. It has since expanded to include an array of fan-based and electronic sound machines, three mattresses, and various sleep accessories.

The company currently sells two all-foam mattresses and one hybrid model. The budget-friendly Cool Memory Foam Mattress includes copper infusions designed to regulate temperature, while the high-end Cool Hybrid Mattress adds pocketed coils for a more responsive feel with greater edge support.

We examined the mid-priced Yogabed Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress in our sleep lab. It’s an all-foam mattress with a medium (5) firmness level that’s geared toward hot sleepers and people who want maximum pressure relief.

Our team of sleep product experts assessed its construction and how the mattress performed in areas like motion isolation, temperature control, and pressure relief. We’ll review our findings, then provide other pertinent purchasing info to help you decide if it’s a good fit for you.

Side Sleepers

This mattress is a top-notch pick for side sleepers in every weight group. The side sleepers on our testing team who weigh under 230 pounds gave this model the best scores possible, and those over 230 pounds also ranked it highly. It has very good pressure relief and cushioning, thanks to the memory foam comfort system.

Most side sleepers should feel supported without experiencing the pressure points that can result from a mattress that’s too firm.

Back Sleepers

Overall, this mattress is a worthwhile option for back sleepers, especially those who weigh under 230 pounds. Back sleepers generally favor a mattress that contours and cushions without allowing excessive compression, and this model fits the bill. Its medium (5) firmness and transitional polyfoam layer keep back sleepers from sinking into the support core, while the memory foam comfort system combats lower back and joint pain.

Stomach Sleepers

Of all the sleeper types on our product testing team, the stomach sleepers liked this mattress the least. It has enough structure to keep those under 130 pounds elevated and supported, but it’s too soft for stomach sleepers who weigh more than that.

A model that’s too soft can allow a stomach sleeper’s midsection to sink, which causes the spine to bend out of alignment. If you’re a stomach sleeper who weighs more than 130 pounds, you may want to choose a firmer mattress.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8 / 10

This mattress’ multiple foam layers excel at isolating motion. If you sleep with a partner or wake easily on mattresses with lots of bounce, this model may be a worthwhile investment.

Pressure Relief

7.5 / 10

People who experience pressure point discomfort should find relief when sleeping on this mattress. Its memory foam comfort system is designed to let the body sink in, making it a particularly good fit for side sleepers under 230 pounds prone to pressure buildup in their hips and shoulders.

Temperature Control

5 / 10

The Yogabed Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress incorporates several cooling features that aim to regulate temperature better than other foam mattresses, including gel and copper infusions that are designed to disperse excess body heat.

Our team found that it doesn’t sleep significantly hot but is prone to retaining some heat, which is typical for mattresses that feature thick foam layers.

Edge Support

6 / 10

We found this mattress offered average edge support during our sleep lab tests. It doesn’t have reinforced edges and falls short in this category compared with models that are bolstered at the perimeter.

People with mobility issues or those who like to sleep near the edge of the bed may prefer a hybrid model containing coils and reinforced edges.

Ease of Movement

5 / 10

Memory foam mattresses tend to inhibit movement more than other bed types. While 7 inches of sturdier polyfoam in this model’s support core help offset the 3 inches of conforming memory foam in the comfort system, our testers determined that its overall ease of movement is about average for an all-foam mattress

Off-Gassing

5.5 / 10

Off-gassing refers to the chemical smell that foam-based products emit when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released after unboxing. While the foams in the Yogabed Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress are certified by CertiPUR-US to have low VOC emissions, our testers noticed a moderate level of off-gassing after removing the plastic.

If you’re sensitive to smells, we suggest unboxing this mattress in a room with plenty of ventilation and waiting at least 24 hours before using it.

Yogabed Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress Review Breakdown

The Yogabed Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress is an all-foam bed with a medium firmness level that measures 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. It’s 10 inches tall, with four layers and a removable polyester cover that’s machine-washable.

The comfort system’s first layer is made from 1 inch of copper-infused memory foam that’s designed to help regulate temperature. It’s followed by a 2-inch memory foam layer containing gel infusions intended to keep sleepers cool. Together, these two layers offer cushioning and pressure relief.

A 1-inch transitional polyfoam layer acts as a buffer between the comfort system and a thick, 6-inch layer of high-density polyfoam that anchors the mattress.
