At a Glance

The addition of a coil support layer on the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress helps with two of the all-foam Yogabed’s weaknesses: temperature control and ease of movement. The more supportive build is a good fit for most side and back sleepers, and hot sleepers in general.

Formerly known as Marpac, Yogasleep is a company with more than 55 years of experience in the sleep industry. Having started with a simple white noise machine, the company has expanded over the years and now offers a variety of sleep products, including mattresses, pillows, bed frames, and other sleep accessories.

The current mattress lineup includes two models: the Original Yogabed Mattress and the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress. We will be focusing on the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress.

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress is Yogasleep’s only hybrid mattress, constructed with layers of memory foam and polyfoam over a pocketed coil support core. The memory foam incorporates copper infusions designed to evenly distribute body heat, and the pocketed coils are engineered to promote airflow.

We’ll take an in-depth look at the construction, pricing, and performance ratings of the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress. We’ll also discuss Yogasleep’s warranty, sleep trial, and shipping policies, and provide recommendations for different sleep positions and body types.

Side Sleepers

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress is ideal for side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds.

Side sleepers typically prefer a medium to medium firm sleep surface that provides cushioning and support for the shoulders and hips. A close-conforming mattress can help relieve pressure points, and it can also encourage proper spinal alignment by allowing the body to settle into a neutral position.

Side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds exert less pressure on the mattress, and some may find the Yogabed Cool Hybrid mattress too firm. By contrast, side sleepers over 230 pounds require a firmer surface, and may receive insufficient spinal support.

Back Sleepers

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress performs well for back sleepers who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds. Its medium firm feel provides the right amount of contouring and support for the average sleeper, without causing excessive sinking.

Back sleepers tend to prefer a mattress that is medium firm to firm. These sleepers put the most pressure on the lumbar area and need a mattress that can support the lower back.

Individuals who weigh less than 130 pounds may prefer a softer mattress that cushions the lumbar area. Those over 230 pounds may experience excessive sinking in the midsection, potentially causing misalignment in the spine. However, the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress tends to feel comfortable to most back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

With its medium firm feel, the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress is suitable for most stomach sleepers under 230 pounds.

Stomach sleepers put the most pressure on the abdomen and hips. If a mattress is too soft, the stomach and hips may sink, causing spinal misalignment and discomfort in the center of the body. For this reason, most stomach sleepers prefer a mattress that is firmer and more responsive.

Stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may not receive enough support from the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5 / 10

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress performs well at motion isolation.

Motion isolation is especially important for individuals who share the bed with an active sleep partner or a large pet. A mattress with good motion isolation may help reduce sleep interruptions caused by vibrations throughout the mattress.

With its tendency to conform closely around the sleeper’s body, memory foam typically excels at motion isolation. As they move independently, the wrapped coils are also effective at reducing disruptions compared to traditional innerspring coils.

Pressure Relief

7.5 / 10

The medium firm Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress provides a supportive and comfortable surface for most sleepers, particularly those between 130 pounds and 230 pounds. The memory foam contours to relieve pressure points, while the wrapped coils help promote proper spinal alignment.

While the mattress performs well for most sleepers, some individuals under 130 pounds may experience pressure points at the hips and shoulders. Those who weigh more than 230 pounds may sink through the comfort layers and come into contact with the firmer support core.

Temperature Control

7 / 10

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress contains multiple elements designed to help maintain a neutral temperature throughout the night.

As with most hybrid mattresses, the pocketed spring support core protects against excessive heat retention by allowing heat to escape through the spaces between the coils.

Although memory foam is generally poor at regulating body temperature, this mattress contains copper infusions engineered to pull heat away from the body.

Edge Support

7 / 10

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress offers reliable edge support.

Edge support affects the lifespan and usable surface of a mattress. Strong edges make it easier to get in and out of bed or sit on the edge of the mattress.

Hybrid mattresses often provide better-than-average edge support due to their coil support core, which resists excessive compression. In the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress, the sides are further reinforced with stronger coils, offering extra support along the length of the mattress. Sleepers should be able to sleep right up to the edge of the mattress without feelings of roll-off.

Ease of Movement

6 / 10

The pocketed coils in the Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress add responsiveness that helps facilitate movement.

Mattresses that allow sleepers to sink in can inhibit movement. Many sleepers find it particularly difficult to switch positions on memory foam mattresses, due to the material’s close conforming and slow response to pressure.

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress has a fairly thin layer of memory foam, with firmer polyfoam and coil layers underneath that mitigate the sinking effect. While not exactly a bouncy mattress, most sleepers should have minimal trouble moving around on this bed.

Off-Gassing

6.5 / 10

Off-gassing occurs as volatile organic compounds are released from a recently unboxed mattress. The odor is considered harmless, and it is particularly common in mattresses containing memory foam or polyfoam.

The foams used in the Yogabed are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they have passed certain tests meant to detect the presence of harmful chemicals. However, some sleepers may notice off-gassing odors upon unboxing the mattress.

While they may be unpleasant to some, the odors generally dissipate within a few days. Opening your mattress in a well-ventilated room often helps speed up the process.

Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress has a 12-inch profile and contains four layers in total. In terms of firmness the mattress is rated as medium firm, or a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This is considered within the range that appeals to the vast majority of sleeper types.

The comfort system includes 2 inches of memory foam, a material that’s known for its ability to contour to the body and relieve pressure points. As memory foam can sometimes trap heat, Yogasleep has added copper infusions that are designed to pull body heat away from the surface of the bed. A second layer of polyfoam helps supply resilience to prevent sleepers from feeling stuck in the bed.

In the support core, 8 inches of pocketed coils rest on a thin polyfoam base. The coils form a deep cradle to promote healthy spinal alignment, and rows of stronger coils along each side of the bed help reinforce the edges. As pocketed coils respond individually to pressure, they tend to transfer less motion than interconnected innerspring coils.

The mattress has a zippered, machine-washable polyester cover. All the foams used in the mattress are CertiPUR-US certified. This means a third-party organization has verified the foams and confirmed that they do not contain harmful levels of chemicals.
