Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

PlushBeds got its start in 2007, focusing on mattresses and other sleep products made of natural materials. The company’s main mattress line primarily features latex and hybrid models. Its latex options are the Organic Bliss Pillowtop, the Botanical Bliss, and the Natural Bliss. Hybrid options include the Luxury Bliss and the Signature Bliss. PlushBeds also makes the foam Cool Bliss and several children’s, RV, and sofa bed mattresses.
The PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop is among the company’s most luxurious options. This high-profile latex model is 15 inches thick and comes in two firmnesses. The mattress uses organic materials certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard and Global Organic Latex Standard, including GOTS-certified cotton, GOTS-certified wool, and GOLS-certified latex.
We’ll break down how the Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress performed during our in-house tests, including which firmness option we preferred for each sleep position and body type. We’ll also explain the mattress’ materials, construction, and pricing, as well as the company’s policies to help you make the best decision.
The PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress comes in two firmness options to better accommodate different sleep needs. PlushBeds refers to them as Medium and Medium Firm, but our testing team rated them as medium (5) and firm (7), respectively. To simplify matters, we’ll use the brand’s terminology throughout this review.
Choose Medium if…
Choose Medium Firm if…
You weigh less than 130 pounds or you prioritize motion isolation and pressure relief. The medium feel compresses more easily, limiting the spread of vibrations and reducing pressure buildup.
You weigh over 230 pounds or you sleep on your stomach. The firmer option’s extra support generally promotes better posture for sleepers in these categories. The sturdier construction also increases the bed’s edge support, ease of movement, and durability.

Side Sleepers
Thanks to its balance of cradling and support, the PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress is a good match for most side sleepers. The wool layer cushions the surface, and the latex provides deeper contouring to relieve pressure from a side sleeper’s hips and shoulders while supporting their spine.
Since the Medium option has more give, a side sleeper’s wider areas sink in a little more deeply. Our testers under 230 pounds generally preferred this version of the mattress, and many over 230 pounds also enjoyed the enhanced pressure relief.
However, most side sleepers on our team who weigh over 230 pounds benefited from the Medium Firm option’s greater support. Some side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds also liked this version’s sturdier feel, though those under 130 pounds reported excessive pressure buildup around their hips and shoulders.
Back Sleepers
The PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress is even yet conforming, supporting good posture for most back sleepers. While the surface lets a back sleeper’s hips sink in a bit, the Dunlop latex spreads out the compression to limit sagging that could put pressure on their lower back. At the same time, the wool provides gentle surface-level cushioning so that there isn’t a big gap between a back sleeper’s lumbar region and the sleep surface.
Most back sleepers on our team preferred the more supportive build of the Medium Firm option. It created a sensation of sleeping on top of the bed and made it easy to maintain good posture. That said, many testers between 130 and 230 pounds also found the Medium option comfortable for back sleeping, and team members under 130 pounds preferred the softer version for this sleep position.
Stomach Sleepers
Support is a high priority for stomach sleepers, so the Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress is a good option for many who prefer this sleep position. The wool pillow-top cushions the surface so that it doesn’t feel hard against the front of the sleeper’s body. Meanwhile, the Dunlop latex comfort layer contours gently, but it doesn’t have enough give for the midsection to sink in excessively. This consistent support promotes better posture to reduce pressure on a stomach sleeper’s lower back.
Since stomach sleepers generally prefer a firmer sleep surface, it’s no surprise that most of our testers favored the extra support of the Medium Firm option. However, those under 130 pounds also didn’t sink too deeply into the Medium version, so it may be preferable for combination sleepers in this weight group.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
7
/ 10
Medium: 6 / 10
Medium Firm: 4 / 10
Our testing team found the motion isolation of the Medium version of the Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress to be about average. The wool and latex comfort layers absorb vibrations and let sleepers’ bodies sink into the mattress to a moderate degree.
The Medium Firm option uses firmer latex in its comfort system, resulting in a more responsive feel with more bounce and vibrations that travel across the mattress surface.
Pressure Relief
8
/ 10
Medium: 8 / 10
Medium Firm: 6 / 10
Thanks to its pillow-top design, plush wool layer, and cradling latex, the Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress offers significant pressure relief, outperforming many latex models. The wool in the pillow-top cushions the surface, and the Dunlop latex contours to the sleeper’s shape without conforming as closely as memory foam for a balance of pressure relief and support.
While both firmness options earned high marks in our pressure relief tests, the Medium model outperformed the firmer option because our testers could sink in more deeply. This characteristic was particularly impactful for our team members under 230 pounds who sleep on their sides.
Temperature Control
8.5
/ 10
We expect strong temperature control from most latex models, and the Organic Bliss Pillowtop did not disappoint. Its cotton cover promotes air circulation, while the wool layer improves temperature regulation.
A linen gusset along the side of the pillow-top further enhances breathability so your body heat can escape, and the Dunlop latex does not retain much warmth.
Edge Support
7.5
/ 10
Medium: 6 / 10
Medium Firm: 8 / 10
Like most latex models, the Organic Bliss Pillowtop lacks reinforced edges, so you may notice more compression than is ideal when you sit or sleep near the perimeter.
Our testers noted that the Medium Firm model’s edges felt secure enough that they could use the full sleep surface, though they noticed minor instability along the perimeter. The Medium option’s edges compressed more significantly, which made some testers feel unstable when lying or sitting close to the perimeter. This effect was particularly pronounced for testers over 230 pounds.
Ease of Movement
8
/ 10
Medium: 6 / 10
Medium Firm: 8 / 10
Both versions of the PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress are relatively easy to move on due to the responsive Dunlop latex. While this material gently contours to a sleeper’s shape, it spreads the compression over a wider area and springs back rapidly when the sleeper changes positions. This facilitates movement and prevents the sensation of being trapped in the bed.
We found the Medium option relatively easy to move on, but the Medium Firm version better aided movement. Since our testers didn’t sink in as deeply, they could change positions quickly and easily. If you move around a lot during the night or experience mobility issues, the Medium Firm option may be a better match.
Off-Gassing
8.5
/ 10
While the Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress may have a slight rubbery odor, it shouldn’t have the distinct new mattress smell associated with models made of synthetic foam.
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are the root cause of most off-gassing odors. However, VOCs typically come from manufacturing synthetic foam. Since the Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress does not contain synthetic foam, it doesn’t have the traditional VOC off-gassing odors.
Our testers noted that the Organic Bliss Pillowtop had very little perceptible smell in general. The breathable design also allowed the minimal odor to air out quickly. We couldn’t detect a smell after the first 24 hours.
The PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop is a latex mattress. Because of its advanced design and high-quality natural and organic components, this mattress can also be considered a luxury model.
The mattress is 15 inches thick and comes in two firmness options: Medium and Medium Firm. These equate to medium (5) and firm (7) on our 10-point firmness scale, where 1 is the softest sleep surface and 10 is the firmest.
Both options use the same basic construction. The uppermost comfort layer contains GOTS-certified organic British wool. This material cushions the surface, enhances temperature regulation, and serves as a chemical-free fire barrier. The next layer consists of buoyant GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex for pressure-relieving contouring with limited sinkage. Finally, another layer of latex adds to the overall responsiveness and even support.
The mattress is wrapped in a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover that allows air circulation. It uses a pillow-top design with Belgian linen along the edges of the pillow-top for enhanced airflow and a decorative touch. Sturdy fabric handles on the sides of the mattress make it easier to move.
In addition to containing GOTS- and GOLS-certified materials, the PlushBeds Organic Bliss Pillowtop Mattress holds GREENGUARD Gold and eco-INSTITUT certifications for its compliance with chemical emissions standards.
