Nolah is a sleep brand that makes mattresses, bed bases, sheets, and other bedding accessories. The company uses proprietary materials like AirFoam, a type of polyfoam engineered to sleep cooler than memory foam.

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a firm (7) hybrid mattress designed for heavier individuals. This model’s sturdy construction supports up to 1,000 pounds in a queen size. A plush Euro-top cushions the surface, while a zoned pocketed coil core offers targeted support. Meanwhile, features designed for cooling promote temperature regulation to satisfy hot sleepers.

In addition to the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, the company makes three other hybrid mattresses. The Nolah Evolution is a high-profile mattress that comes in three firmness levels. The medium firm (6) Nolah Natural combines springy Talalay latex with a zoned pocketed coil support core. The flippable Nolah Nurture has two firmness levels built in to support growing children.

Nolah also makes two all-foam mattresses: the Original and the Signature. Both have a medium (5) feel and notable contouring, but the Signature is thicker and more expensive.

We’ll discuss the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress’ materials, construction, and performance. We’ll also break down the company’s sleep trial, warranty, and other policies to help you decide if this supportive hybrid is right for you.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers generally need considerable contouring to alleviate pressure around their hips and shoulders. The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ provides even contouring for most side sleepers over 130 pounds. Its adaptive Euro-top cradles the hips and shoulders, and its responsive polyfoam promotes neutral spine alignment. The zoned coil support core also lets a side sleeper’s shoulders and hips sink in a bit while supporting their lower back.

Because of its firm (7) feel, the Evolution Comfort+ is well suited to side sleepers over 130 pounds but might be a little too rigid for lighter individuals. These sleepers may prefer a mattress with more give around the hips and shoulders.

Back Sleepers

The Evolution Comfort+ Mattress’ combination of firm support and gentle cushioning are ideal for many back sleepers, particularly those weighing between 130 and 230 pounds. The Euro-top cushions the body, while the AirFoam HD layer evenly distributes weight.

The pocketed coil core’s middle section is zoned for extra lumbar support, providing additional pushback to help back sleepers maintain good posture.

Stomach Sleepers

Because of its firm support and zoned core, the Evolution Comfort+ is a good match for most stomach sleepers. Its resilient polyfoam comfort system prevents the stomach and hips from sagging excessively, which can strain a stomach sleeper’s lower back.

The zoned pocketed coil support core is the second line of defense in limiting sinkage, with sturdier coils in the middle to help keep a stomach sleeper’s midsection and shoulders on an even plane.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8 / 10

Despite its notable bounce, the Evolution Comfort+ isolates motion well. The thick comfort system absorbs movement, so co-sleepers are less likely to awaken when their partner adjusts positions. The pocketed coil core also reduces surface vibrations since each spring moves independently.

Pressure Relief

6.5 / 10

The Evolution Comfort+ offers moderate pressure relief. Its Euro-top gently cushions pressure points, while the AirFoam HD layer redistributes weight to alleviate tension. The pocketed coil core also reduces pressure buildup by incorporating zoned support with more give under pressure-prone areas, such as the shoulders.

That said, side sleepers under 130 pounds are unlikely to sink deeply enough into the firm surface to enjoy significant pressure relief.

Temperature Control

7.5 / 10

Our testers were impressed with the mattress’ solid temperature control. The airy cotton cover has thermally conductive fibers designed to dissipate heat, and the gusseted Euro-top ventilates the comfort system.

While some types of foam are prone to heat retention, AirFoam HD is designed for breathability, so it doesn’t trap as much heat as close-conforming memory foam. The pocketed coil support core also has plenty of gaps to disperse heat.

Edge Support

9 / 10

We didn’t notice much compression when sitting or lying along the sides of the Evolution Comfort+. Responsive foam comfort layers minimize sinkage, while a reinforced perimeter boosts edge support. Co-sleepers should be able to spread out on the mattress and feel consistent support.

Ease of Movement

7 / 10

As a mattress designed for heavier people, the Evolution Comfort+ resists sagging and regains its shape quickly when sleepers move, preventing deep impressions that could otherwise feel confining. The springy pocketed coil core also facilitates movement, while a sturdy perimeter makes getting in and out of bed easier.

Off-Gassing

7.5 / 10

You might notice moderate off-gassing odors when you unbox the Evolution Comfort+ Mattress, which is typical of models containing foam. The smell occurs when synthetic foams release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). As these tiny particles dissipate, so too does the odor.

If you’re sensitive to smells, you can let the mattress air out in a well-ventilated room. Most odors should dissipate within 48 hours of unboxing the mattress.

Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Review Breakdown

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a 14-inch hybrid mattress that rates as firm (7) on our 10-point firmness scale.

An organic cotton cover encases the mattress. The fabric incorporates ArcticTex fibers engineered to dissipate heat. A 2-inch layer of polyfoam is quilted into the cover, creating a Euro-top that cushions the surface. A gusset around the Euro-top is designed to promote airflow.

The next layer uses 2 inches of AirFoam, a proprietary polyfoam formulated to sleep cooler than traditional memory foam while maintaining more consistent firmness. Two additional layers of transitional polyfoam promote spinal alignment by evenly distributing body weight and resisting sagging.

The support core features 8 inches of pocketed coils. They’re built to support extra weight and are arranged in three firmness zones for targeted support. The center is firmer to bolster the lumbar area, while the top and bottom zones allow the shoulders and legs to sink in a bit.

A reinforced perimeter increases edge support, which is helpful if you sit or sleep near the sides of the bed. A layer of recycled plant fibers stabilizes the mattress, and a non-skid fabric base helps prevent shifting.
