Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.
Lori Beds is a U.S.-based manufacturer of Murphy beds, a space-saving bed type that’s designed with hinges, allowing it to be folded into a wall, cabinet, or shelving when not in use. The Lori Bed, the company’s only current Murphy bed model, features a wooden design that folds into wall-mounted shelving. The bed comes in twin and queen sizes with either vertical or horizontal orientations, meaning you can sleep parallel or perpendicular to the wall it’s mounted on.
The company also sells the Lori Mattress, which is designed to integrate seamlessly with the Lori Bed. The mattress contains memory foam comfort layers and a pocketed coil support core. It was specially engineered to withstand the wear and tear that can occur when folding and unfolding the bed. Although the mattress is meant to accommodate Murphy beds, it can also be used with a regular bed frame.
We tested the Lori Mattress in our sleep lab across a variety of performance categories, including pressure relief, motion isolation, and temperature control. We’ll share our results, then cover other important purchasing information, such as shipping and sleep trial policies.

Side Sleepers
The Lori Mattress has pressure-relieving qualities that helped many side sleepers stay comfortable during our tests, with a medium firm (6) feel that supports the body from head to toe.
The bed proved to be a bit too firm for side sleepers on our team who weigh under 130 pounds, since their weight didn’t compress the layers enough to receive the memory foam’s full benefits. However, those above 130 pounds gave the mattress high ratings. The memory foam cushioned their hips and shoulders while the pocketed coil support core prevented their midsections from sinking and causing spinal misalignment.
Back Sleepers
The best mattress for back sleepers is one that balances support and pressure relief. The Lori Mattress offers this balance for back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. The memory foam provides just the right amount of cushioning to relieve pressure buildup in the joints, and the sturdy coils support the lower back and maintain spinal alignment.
Back sleepers under 130 pounds may find the bed too firm, while those over 230 pounds might not receive enough support.
Stomach Sleepers
During our tests, the Lori Mattress was most comfortable for stomach sleepers under 130 pounds. We found it was firm enough to prevent these sleepers from sinking too deeply into the bed. It was also sufficiently firm for some stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, though some testers in this weight group found the bed too soft.
Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds need significant support to keep their midsection from sinking into the mattress, and the Lori Mattress is too soft to achieve this.
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
6
/ 10
The Lori Mattress offered average motion isolation during our lab tests. The memory foam comfort system absorbs some movement and the coils within the support core are wrapped individually. This pocketed coil design minimizes motion transfer by allowing the coils to compress separately from one another.
Despite the memory foam layers and the pocketed coil design, you should expect some motion transfer while sleeping on this mattress. If you are a light sleeper who shares the bed with a sleep partner, you may wake from your partner’s movements.
Pressure Relief
6.5
/ 10
Designed with two memory foam layers, the Lori Mattress provides very good pressure relief. The top layer contours closely to relieve pressure point discomfort by adapting to your body’s shape.
The bottom memory foam layer has a slightly firmer feel and is engineered to evenly disperse weight. Together, the two layers within the comfort system cradle the body without sacrificing significant support.
Temperature Control
7
/ 10
Hybrid mattresses tend to perform better than all-foam mattresses when it comes to temperature control, due to airflow through coils in the support core. The Lori Mattress regulates temperature fairly well, but the memory foam layers retain heat to a degree that some hot sleepers may find uncomfortable.
The top memory foam layer includes gel infusions designed to draw warmth away from the body. However, the mattress does not stay as cool as hybrid models that feature comfort systems made from more temperature-neutral materials like latex.
This bed should feel comfortable if you don’t sleep hot, but it may be too warm for those in hot climates or for people seeking a cooling mattress.
Edge Support
8
/ 10
The Lori Mattress is designed with durability and edge-to-edge support in mind. The perimeter is reinforced with sturdy coils to help ensure that you can use the whole mattress without rolling off. The bed is also hand-tufted to keep the layers in place when the mattress is stored upright. This helps maintain the bed’s overall integrity and sturdiness.
Though this mattress didn’t achieve perfect marks during our edge support tests, the strong perimeter will still benefit people with limited mobility and those who frequently sleep or sit near the edge of their bed.
Ease of Movement
7
/ 10
During testing, we found it fairly easy to move around on this mattress, though our testers reported that the surface does inhibit some movement. The memory foam comfort layers are designed to compress easily and absorb motion, which can make it difficult to move on top of this mattress without sinking slightly.
The coil support core offers enough bounce and support to keep you situated atop the mattress, but it is not as responsive and bouncy as some competing hybrid mattresses.
Off-Gassing
6.5
/ 10
Off-gassing refers to the odor that derives from volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a byproduct of the foam manufacturing process.
The memory foam in the Lori Mattress is certified by CertiPUR-US, meaning it meets that program’s standards for low indoor VOC emissions. Still, our testers noticed an average amount of off-gassing after unboxing the mattress.
If you’re sensitive to smells, we suggest opening the box in a well-ventilated area and letting the mattress air out for a few days.
Lori Mattress Review Breakdown
The Lori Mattress is a hybrid model that’s designed for use with a Murphy bed, though it can also be used with regular bed frames. The bed rates 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which corresponds to a medium firm feel. This mattress has three layers and measures 10 inches tall.
The mattress has a breathable cotton cover lined with rayon that acts as a fire retardant. The comfort system contains two memory foam layers. The top layer features gel infusions intended to keep sleepers cool by dissipating heat. The bottom layer has a slightly firmer composition that disperses body weight and relieves pressure.
The support core is made of individually wrapped coils that move separately from one another when weight is applied. Higher-gauge coils line the perimeter to offer enhanced edge support. The mattress is engineered to withstand storage within a Murphy bed frame, with a hand-tufted design intended to secure the layers when the bed is stored on its end.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
Hybrid mattresses are typically more expensive than all-foam and basic innerspring models because they incorporate multiple types of materials and tend to have a more intricate construction. The Lori Mattress is competitively priced for a hybrid model — especially one that’s hand-tufted — making it a worthwhile choice if you’re looking for a budget-friendly hybrid mattress.
This model is only available in twin and queen sizes. Both options measure 10 inches tall, which should be compatible with most Murphy bed frames.
You can purchase the Lori Mattress directly from the Lori Beds website. It is also sold through Amazon, subject to availability.
Shipping
Lori Beds ships the mattress for free to those who live within the contiguous U.S. Shipping is available to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada for an additional fee.
Orders are usually processed within one to three business days and typically take three to seven days to arrive via FedEx once shipped. The mattress is compressed, sealed in plastic, and delivered in a box. It should take approximately three to five hours to fully expand once the plastic is removed.
Additional Services
Lori Beds does not currently offer additional services like White Glove delivery or old mattress removal.
Sleep Trial
Each mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial that has a mandatory 30-night break-in period. Mattresses returned during that window are eligible for a full refund.
Warranty
The Lori Mattress is covered by a 10-year limited warranty. The company does not disclose warranty details on its website, though it states that full warranty terms are available upon request.
