Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.
Daniel Noyed
Senior Product Editor
Back sleeper
165 lbs.
Dunks head in ice water to wake up
As a back sleeper, I felt best on the firm model of the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress. For me, the latex layers strike a nice balance of cushioning for comfort and pushback to hold my spine in a neutral position.
Colin Simpson
Product Research Manager
Side sleeper
190 lbs.
Talks in sleep (like a lot)
Getting proper support from this mattress really relies on picking out the right firmness level. But what I thought was most impressive was the temperature regulation that allowed me to sleep cool.
Logan Foley
Editorial Director
Side sleeper
140 lbs.
Has too many dogs in the bed
For side sleeping, I think the soft or medium models do the best job of accommodating the hips and shoulders. The responsiveness of this mattress helps keep you from feeling stuck in place, but it also means there’s quite a bit of motion transfer.

Side Sleepers
After testing all four firmness options on the 10-inch Turmerry Mattress, we found that the medium (5) firmness level is best for most side sleepers. This firmness allows for effective cushioning of the hips and shoulders, but it has enough pushback to keep the body from sagging into the bed.
Some of our side sleeper testers under 130 pounds preferred the soft (3) model, but most people found it to be too plush. Side sleepers over 230 pounds tend to get better support from the firm (7) model, which does a better job of resisting sinkage. These sleepers can also benefit from the 10-inch or 12-inch models, which have a thicker comfort section to distribute body weight.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers on our testing team were complimentary of the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress. The most popular firmness level was firm (7), which worked best for most back sleepers. Its blend of bounce, cushioning, and pushback was able to promote spinal alignment without aggravating the lumbar area.
Some back sleepers over 130 pounds preferred the added firmness of the extra firm (8) model to prevent excess sinkage. The medium (5) model was only given high ratings by some of the back sleepers in our testing who weigh less than 130 pounds.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a sleep surface that stays flat under their body, keeping the abdomen from sinking out of line. In our testing, the firm (7) and extra firm (8) versions of the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress proved to be the best for stomach sleepers of all weight groups.
The choice between these two firmer models was largely an issue of personal preference. That said, stomach sleepers under 130 pounds leaned toward the firm (7), and those over 230 pounds gravitated toward the extra firm (8).
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
6.5
/ 10
Soft/Medium: 8 / 10
Firm: 6 / 10
Extra Firm: 5.5 / 10
“Couples will almost certainly notice when their bed partner moves around. A core characteristic of latex is its responsiveness, which means that vibrations from movement are not well contained on this mattress.” – Danny
A common drawback of latex mattresses is their tendency to cause motion to transfer across the mattress surface. This means that you usually feel some movement when a bed partner gets in and out of bed, tosses and turns, or otherwise moves on their side of the mattress.
Whether this is a significant drawback depends on your situation. If you sleep solo, it’s a non-issue. It’s also probably not a concern if you and your bed partner both sleep soundly. But it can be a problem for anyone who shares a bed and can be woken up easily.
In the case of the Turmerry Mattress, the softest model does the best job of minimizing movement-related disruptions, since its closer conforming allows it to absorb more movement.
Pressure Relief
7
/ 10
Soft/Medium: 7.5 / 10
Firm: 6.5 / 10
Extra Firm: 6 / 10
“The soft and medium versions of the Turmerry Natural and Organic Mattress have the most ability to cushion the body, but none of these models conform closely to the body. That makes their pressure relief a bit more hit or miss depending on a sleeper’s needs.” – Logan
Our team experienced mid-range pressure relief on the Turmerry Mattress.
You’ll find more cushioning on the soft (3) and medium (5) models, but they still don’t provide the kind of contouring pressure relief offered by memory foam.
That said, for some sleepers, the feel of the zoned latex actually provides better support, especially for back and stomach sleepers. This support helps fend off pressure buildup that can occur when weight-bearing areas sink too deeply into the mattress.
Overall, the Turmerry Mattress doesn’t offer standout pressure relief in the traditional sense, but our testing team found that it could provide many sleepers with both comfort and spinal support.
Temperature Control
8
/ 10
Soft: 7.5 / 10
Medium/Firm: 8 / 10
Extra Firm: 8.5 / 10
“I loved how cool this mattress was. The materials are extremely effective at preventing heat from building up during the night.” – Colin
The members of our testing team raved about the temperature neutrality of the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress. All of the materials, including cotton, wool, and latex, are highly breathable and play a role in cooler sleep.
The soft (3) model can collect a bit of heat because of how it allows the body to sink in, but it still sleeps cooler than most foam mattresses. All of the other firmness models offer excellent temperature neutrality, with the best rating for the extra firm model.
Edge Support
7
/ 10
Soft: 6 / 10
Medium: 7 / 10
Firm: 8 / 10
Extra Firm: 8.5 / 10
“Edge support on the Turmerry Natural and Organic Mattress is really solid, except for the soft model, which can feel a bit unstable because of how much the latex compresses.” – Logan
The amount of edge support you experience on the Turmerry Mattress depends significantly on the firmness level.
Edge support is excellent on the firmer models, which allow only light compression around the perimeter. The reliable edges make it easier to get in and out of bed, plus they open up more usable space for people who share a smaller mattress.
The medium (5) has about average edge support, while the perimeter can feel much less sturdy on the soft (3) model.
Ease of Movement
7.5
/ 10
Soft: 7 / 10
Medium: 8 / 10
Firm: 8 / 10
Extra Firm: 8.5 / 10
“As you’d expect from a latex bed, there’s almost no barrier to movement. The bounce really enables you to move around on the mattress without difficulty.” – Danny
The Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress facilitates just about any movement on the mattress surface. With multiple layers of springy Dunlop latex, you never feel stuck in the bed.
The one exception is the soft (3) model. It still has roughly average ease of movement, but there’s a little more sinkage that can pose a barrier when you want to adjust your sleeping position.
Off-Gassing
8
/ 10
“Organic latex, cotton, and wool don’t off-gas, so there’s no real issue. I could smell the brand-new latex, but it was light and went away in about a day.” – Colin
Aside from a subtle rubbery smell from the latex and possibly an earthy scent from the wool, there’s no off-gassing from the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress.
Off-gassing in new mattresses comes from compounds formed during the manufacturing of synthetic foams. Since this mattress only has natural materials, it doesn’t emit those compounds.
Any light smell from the latex should go away quickly, especially in a well-ventilated room.

Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress Review Breakdown
There are multiple models of the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress, providing shoppers with options for mattress height and firmness. All of the models have an organic cotton cover and a top layer of New Zealand wool.
Each model also features layers of latex made with the Dunlop process and certified to be organic according to the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS). Dunlop latex is known for being durable and bouncy. In this mattress, it is formulated to provide zoned support that better accommodates key areas of the body, with more cushioning under the shoulders and thighs and firmer support for the lower back.
The number of latex layers as well as their thickness and firmness varies by model.
In the 10-inch mattress, there are three layers of latex, each of which is 3 inches thick. The firmness of each layer depends on whether you select the soft (3), medium (5), firm (7), or extra firm (8) version.
The 12-inch model is similar except that it has an additional 2-inch layer of latex placed at the top of the mattress. It is available in the same four firmness levels as the 10-inch model.
In the 7-inch model, there are two 3-inch layers of latex. This model is designed to be reversible, with a different firmness level on each side. One version has medium (5) and firm (7) sides. A second version has firm (7) and extra firm (8) sides.

The Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress has a competitive price-point for a latex mattress. In general, natural latex is more expensive than polyfoam to produce, and organic certifications can also add to its cost.
As a result, the Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress is a reasonable value considering its organic materials and robust construction.
The mattress is available in 7-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch models, all of which are offered in the six standard mattress sizes. The 10-inch and 12-inch models are also offered in split queen, split king, and split California king sizes.
The Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress is sold in all 50 states and U.S. territories. It is available through the Turmerry website and in the company’s brick-and-mortar showroom in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Shipping
Turmerry offers free shipping within the contiguous U.S., and most orders arrive within seven business days. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories comes at an extra cost and may take longer.
Each mattress ships in four separate boxes that contain the different components. The latex layers arrive tightly wrapped in two layers of plastic.
Assembly may require two people and takes 10 to 15 minutes. It involves laying the cover over the bed frame, stacking the layers, and zipping up the cover.
Additional Services
Turmerry doesn’t offer additional services such as White Glove delivery or old mattress removal.
Sleep Trial
Each Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial that allows you to make sure that it is right for you. You are required to keep the mattress for 30 days so that your body can adjust to the mattress. After that, the mattress is eligible for a return.
If you want to return the mattress, you have to contact Turmerry and follow steps to donate the mattress. After receiving proof of donation, the company will either give you a full refund or issue 110% of the purchase price in store credit, at your option.
As an alternative to a refund, Turmerry can also help you adjust the feel of the mattress by swapping out a single layer of latex at no charge. If that doesn’t address your concerns, you can still return the entire mattress.
Warranty
The Turmerry Natural and Organic Latex Mattress comes with a 20-year limited warranty. If the mattress has any defects in its materials or manufacturing, Turmerry will repair or replace it.
The warranty covers issues like cracks or permanent indentations of at least 1 inch in the latex. However, it does not cover damage from abuse, misuse, or failure to use a sufficiently supportive foundation. It also does not cover ordinary wear and tear.
