At a Glance

The Titan Plus Luxe proves that you can make a supportive mattress for people up to 500 pounds without being uncomfortably firm. Quilted gel foam and two layers of polyfoam offer responsive cradling, with a pocketed coil support core to support spinal alignment. The bed is a good choice for couples in different weight groups, as it doesn’t feel too hard for lighter sleepers.

In 2021, Brooklyn Bedding launched the Titan Plus Luxe, a mattress built to be durable and comfortable for people with a higher body weight.

The mattress is 13 inches tall and has a firmness level of medium firm (6). It combines memory foam, adaptive polyfoam, and pocketed innerspring coils in a hybrid design engineered for both pressure relief and strong overall support.

We analyzed the performance of the Titan Plus Luxe in our in-house test lab and received detailed feedback from our expert team. Find out what they had to say and get all the other details you need about the pricing, construction, and features of the Titan Plus Luxe.

Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

Logan Foley

Editorial Director

Side sleeper

140 lbs.

Has too many dogs in bed

“Given how sturdily built the Titan Plus Luxe is, I was pleasantly surprised by its ability to relieve pressure around my hips and shoulders.”

Side sleeper

215 lbs.

Sleeps with a weighted blanket

“I could really feel how well the supporting layers reinforce the memory foam at the top. That allowed me to get plenty of cushioning without sinking into the bed.”

Jeremy Klein

Side sleeper

160 lbs.

Nightly melatonin user

“I didn’t overheat on this mattress, but you can feel a bit of warmth build up in the top layer. The cooling add-on to the cover is probably worth the extra cost for people who usually sleep hot.”

Side Sleepers

Our testing found that most side sleepers were impressed with the performance of the Titan Plus Luxe.

When lying on your side, it’s important to have cushioning for your hips and shoulders, and enough pushback to avoid excessive sinkage. In the Titan Plus Luxe, the memory foam provides cushioning and pressure relief, and the responsive polyfoam and coils prevent you from  sinking too deeply into the mattress.

Although most liked this mattress, some side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds found that the medium firm (6) feel was a bit too hard against their joints. On the other hand, a few testers over 230 pounds said that the mattress was more plush than they preferred.

Back Sleepers

The Plus Luxe provides effective support to many back sleepers, especially those who weigh up to 230 pounds.

For back sleepers, it is essential that a mattress has enough firmness to stay flat and even under the body’s weight. But it should also provide some contouring to accommodate the natural curve of the spine around the lower back.

In our tests, back sleepers thought that the Titan Plus Luxe struck a solid balance of support and cushioning. Some people over 230 pounds felt that it was a touch too soft, but most could still maintain neutral alignment when sleeping on this mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleeping poses unique challenges for getting sufficient support. During testing, most stomach sleepers gave at least adequate ratings to the Titan Luxe Plus, although many said it lacked the optimal amount of support.

For stomach sleepers, their midsection needs extra pushback so that it doesn’t sink down into the bed. Without enough reinforcement, the spine can become strained after being pulled into a U-shape.

Because of its responsive materials, the Titan Luxe Plus was mostly effective at keeping stomach sleepers on an even plane. It got the best reviews from those under 130 pounds. Sleepers over 230 pounds were more inclined to say it was too soft, but they still thought it was better than many other mattresses on the market.

Performance Ratings

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7 / 10

“A downside of the responsive materials in this mattress is that you’ll often notice when there’s movement on the other side of the bed. That said, it’s about what you’d expect from a robust hybrid like this one.” – Logan

Consistent with other hybrid models, motion isolation is neither a major weakness nor a chief strength of the Plus Luxe.

The conforming memory foam in the Titan Plus Luxe absorbs some movement, but the supporting polyfoam and pocketed coils generate bounce and motion transfer.

The end result is that you can frequently feel light vibrations when your bed partner changes positions or gets in and out of bed. But for most people, it’s not enough to cause significant sleep disruption and only a problem for sleepers who are very easily awakened.

Pressure Relief

8 / 10

“I could feel the memory foam mold and adapt to relieve pressure around my hips and shoulders, letting me settle into a good sleep posture.” – Brad

The memory foam quilted into the Plus Luxe’s cover provides even contouring and weight distribution, and the TitanFlex polyfoam also has some adaptive qualities. Materials like these that cradle the spine can take pressure off the shoulders, lower back, and hips, alleviating discomfort in these potentially sensitive areas.

However, not all sleepers will get the same level of pressure relief. We found that some side sleepers under 130 pounds may find it too firm, while some back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds may sink too deeply into the mattress.

Temperature Control

7 / 10

“Although it costs extra, the optional cooling cover did seem to help dissipate heat. Even without it, I think this mattress sleeps cool enough for most people.” – Jeremy

As is common in many hybrids, some materials contribute to heat retention while others work to dissipate extra warmth. Overall, this led to a roughly average temperature control rating for the Titan Plus Luxe.

In this mattress, the memory foam can collect heat, especially when it closely hugs the body. At the same time, the open space around the coils allows for better ventilation.

Though it costs extra, the cooling cover can be an asset for hot sleepers. Phase change material is engineered to absorb and dissipate body heat so that the surface maintains a neutral temperature. That said, the standard cover sleeps reasonably cool and is likely sufficient for people who don’t tend to overheat.

Edge Support

7.5 / 10

“While there’s some extra sinkage around the edge compared to the center of the mattress, I never felt like I was going to accidentally roll off of the Titan Plus Luxe.” – Logan

The Titan Plus Luxe offers reliable edge support, which is a characteristic of many hybrid mattresses. The bed’s 8-inch pocketed coils are thick, and added reinforcement around the perimeter reduces sinkage when you sleep or sit along the edges.

Our testers did detect some extra compression of the memory foam around the perimeter, but they didn’t find it to be a problem for overall edge-to-edge stability.

Ease of Movement

7.5 / 10

“At first, it can feel like there might be some resistance to movement because of the memory foam, but there’s enough bounce to make it fairly easy to adjust your positioning in bed.” – Brad

Our testing team felt that it was generally easy to move on the surface of the Plus Luxe. As memory foam conforms to the body, it can pose an initial barrier to movement. But that is counteracted by the coils and polyfoam, both of which add a springy feel to the mattress.

Some people who weigh more than 230 pounds may sink in more deeply, which may lower their ratings for the Plus Luxe in this category. However, we found that most sleepers were able to move without significant restrictions.

Off-Gassing

7 / 10

“It didn’t last long, but there was a pretty strong off-gassing odor when I first set up the Titan Plus Luxe. I turned on a fan, which helped clear away the smell.” – Jeremy

After unboxing the Titan Plus Luxe, you’ll probably notice some initial odor from the foam layers. This is known as off-gassing, and it occurs when foams and other materials release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. VOCs are harmless but carry a noticeable chemical odor.

At first, these smells can be off-putting, but you won’t need to worry about them for long. The smells should completely clear out in a matter of days. To expedite the process, you can make sure the mattress is in a well-ventilated room.

Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Review Breakdown

The Titan Plus Luxe is a hybrid mattress that is 13 inches tall. Its firmness level is medium firm (6), and its construction includes multiple layers of foam along with a core of metal coils.

A 1-inch layer of memory foam is quilted into the cover, and this creates an initially plush feel when you climb into bed. This layer is infused with gel that is designed to draw heat away from your body.

The next layer is composed of 2 inches of TitanFlex, a proprietary material designed to combine the adaptability of polyfoam with the bounciness of latex. A 1-inch layer of denser polyfoam reinforces the top two layers to hedge against sinking too deeply into the bed.

The support core is an 8-inch pocketed coil system on top of a layer of high-density polyfoam. The combination gives the mattress its taller profile and sturdy feel.

For the cover, you have two options: standard or cooling, both made of polyester. The cooling cover costs extra and is infused with phase change material that is intended to pull heat away from the surface and maintain a more comfortable sleep temperature.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

Availability

The Titan Plus Luxe can be shipped to all 50 states and most of Canada. Shoppers can purchase the mattress through Brooklyn Bedding’s website or at one of the brand’s company-owned or partner brick-and-mortar showrooms.

Shipping

Brooklyn Bedding offers free shipping to the contiguous 48 states. Delivery to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada incurs an extra fee.

Each mattress is made to order, and you receive a tracking number once the order ships. Brooklyn Bedding does not provide White Glove delivery, so all mattresses are delivered in a box to your doorstep.

After the package arrives, bring it inside to a room of your choice. It’s best to enlist a lifting partner as the box can be quite heavy. Open the box and use a knife to carefully cut away the plastic. The mattress will immediately begin to expand, but it may need a day or two to reach its full shape.

Additional Services

Brooklyn Bedding does not provide White Glove delivery or old mattress removal.

Sleep Trial

Brooklyn Bedding’s sleep trial lasts 120 nights. The trial requires a 30-night break-in period, so you won’t be able to initiate a return or exchange until at least 30 nights have elapsed. If you decide to return the mattress, you will get a refund minus a $99 return shipping fee.

Brooklyn Bedding works with customers to find a suitable way to dispose of the mattress, for example by donating it to a local charity. During the trial period, you may also opt to exchange your Plus Luxe with another Brooklyn Bedding model. Exchange shipping fees are covered by Brooklyn Bedding, though you must pay the difference if the new model is more expensive.

Warranty

The Titan Plus Luxe comes with a 10-year limited warranty. Brooklyn Bedding will replace or repair defective mattresses. This warranty covers certain defects in materials or manufacturing. However, other issues, such as normal wear and tear and problems that stem from misuse, are not covered under the warranty.
