Founded in 1911 as the La Crosse Garment Manufacturing Co., The Company Store got its start producing down comforters, featherbeds, and winter clothes. Its product line has since expanded to include towels, home decor, sheets, pillows, and mattress toppers. In 2023, the company launched its first mattress model.

The Company Store Mattress is a luxury hybrid model with a medium firm (6) feel. Its comfort system contains layers of polyfoam and natural Talalay latex, while the core uses two coil systems for balanced contouring and responsive support. The design also incorporates several components engineered for temperature regulation.

We’ll highlight which types of sleepers are likely to enjoy The Company Store Mattress, break down how its construction impacted its performance in our tests, and explain the pricing and policies that might influence your purchasing decision.

Side Sleepers

The Company Store Mattress gently conforms to a side sleeper’s shape, reducing pressure around their hips and shoulders. Two quilted polyfoam layers soften the surface to ease pressure points, while buoyant Talalay latex contours to spread the sleeper’s weight out more evenly. Microcoils in the support core deepen the cradling, allowing heavier sections of the body to sink in farther.

During our testing, the mattress worked well for side sleepers of all weights, with those between 130 and 230 pounds reporting a nearly optimal combination of pressure relief and spinal support. A few testers under 130 pounds noted that they prefer a bit more give, while some over 230 pounds said they need slightly sturdier support.

Back Sleepers

Like any of the best mattresses for back sleepers, The Company Store Mattress gently contours to a back sleeper’s body while preventing excessive sagging. Its polyfoam layers let the hips sink in just a little while molding to the lumbar region, thereby adjusting to the spine’s natural curvature. Meanwhile, the Talalay latex spreads the compression over a wider area to redistribute pressure without letting sleepers sink in too deeply.

Across the board, our back sleepers were enthused about this model. They reported feeling lifted yet cradled, helping them maintain good sleep posture. Testers between 130 and 230 pounds were particularly impressed by the balanced support.

Stomach Sleepers

The Company Store Mattress’ notable cushioning and support make it a good fit for many stomach sleepers. The buoyant lifting sensation of the Talalay latex reduces the likelihood of a stomach sleeper’s midsection sagging into the mattress and pulling their spine into an unnatural curve.

Because of its medium firm feel, The Company Store Mattress was better suited for our stomach sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. Most team members in this weight group noted that the mattress kept their spine on a fairly even plane. Conversely, some testers under 130 pounds said they prefer slightly more cushioning, while some over 230 pounds cited inadequate midsection support.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conducted a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5 / 10

Compared to other latex hybrid models we’ve tested, The Company Store Mattress isolates motion moderately well. Its two polyfoam layers absorb many surface vibrations and the latex also dampens movement, though some vibrations may travel because of the latter material’s responsiveness.

Our team members detected minimal movement when a testing partner changed positions on the opposite side of the bed. When we dropped a kettlebell on the surface, our vibrational sensors detected a moderate spread of movement. We don’t expect this motion transfer to disrupt most sleepers, but those who awaken easily and share their bed with a very active partner might notice.

Pressure Relief

7.5 / 10

The Company Store Mattress contours to a sleeper’s body to reduce pressure accumulation. This level of pressure relief is on par with many hybrid models with a medium firm feel.

Two layers of quilted polyfoam cushion the surface, while the Talalay latex underneath adds responsive contouring. By dispersing the sleeper’s weight, there’s less force around pressure-prone areas, such as the hips and shoulders. The microcoil system adds to this effect by adjusting quickly to the sleeper’s shape and movements.

In our tests, team members of all weights and sleep positions felt they experienced enough pressure relief to rest comfortably on the bed. Our pressure mapping also showed that the mattress spread out their weight fairly evenly, limiting pressure buildup.

Temperature Control

9.5 / 10

Thanks to its breathable design, The Company Store Mattress excels at temperature control. While we expect most latex hybrids to perform well in this category, The Company Store Mattress stands out among its peers.

The cover uses a temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking blend of silk, wool, and cashmere. Underneath, copper, silver, and gel fibers are designed to combat microbial growth while transferring away heat. The gel in both polyfoam layers is also intended to reduce heat buildup, while airflow through the Talalay latex layer and two coil systems effectively cools the surface.

Our temperature readings showed that very little heat lingered on The Company Store Mattress after our testers moved. Team members also reported maintaining a neutral temperature throughout the testing process. Because of its exceptional breathability, we recommend The Company Store Mattress for hot sleepers.

Edge Support

8.5 / 10

The Company Store Mattress has solid edge support, which is aligned with most similarly constructed models. Talalay latex compresses over a wider area than polyfoam or memory foam, meaning sleepers are unlikely to feel like the mattress is sagging under their weight if they get close to the edge. The coil systems also provide significant pushback, supporting sleepers well when they approach the perimeter.

Across weight groups and sleep positions, our team members could comfortably sit or lie along the edge without feeling like they might slide off. While those over 230 pounds didn’t feel quite as secure as other testers, no team members reported feeling the need to gravitate toward the center of the bed.

Ease of Movement

8.5 / 10

Because of its responsive materials, The Company Store Mattress is easy to move on. This is consistent with other latex hybrid models we’ve tested in our sleep lab.

While the quilted polyfoam layers conform to the body, they do not maintain a lasting impression when the sleeper moves. Talalay latex also adjusts to the shape of the sleeper, but its natural buoyancy gives a lifting sensation that facilitates movement. The two coil layers add to the mattress’ springy, responsive feel.

Our testers could change positions with little effort, so this mattress might be a good fit for combination sleepers and active sleepers who want to be able to move easily.

Off-Gassing

8.5 / 10

Off-gassing stems from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced during the foam manufacturing process that linger in a mattress when it’s compressed for shipment.

The Company Store Mattress contains some polyfoam, but most of the materials are not typically associated with off-gassing odors. Additionally, the foam is CertiPUR-US certified, so it meets third-party standards for low VOC emissions.

When our testers received the mattress, they detected a slight initial smell, but they reported that it almost entirely dissipated within 24 hours.

The Company Store Mattress Review Breakdown

The Company Store Mattress is a medium firm (6) model with a hybrid design. At 15 inches thick, it is a high-profile option that will likely require deep pocket sheets

A cover containing silk, wool, and cashmere wraps around the mattress. These breathable, moisture-wicking materials help limit heat retention. Meanwhile, gel, copper, and silver fibers underneath are designed for antimicrobial protection.

Two layers of polyfoam quilted into the surface add cushioning. The polyfoam layers also contain gel engineered for temperature control. Next, a latex layer contours to the body and redistributes weight for responsive support and pressure relief.

The support core consists of two coil layers. The top layer uses microcoils to amplify the contouring. A layer of cotton acts as a base for the microcoils and separates them from the larger coil system underneath, which adds support and bounce.
