SpineAlign is an American bedding company co-founded by a chiropractor and former athlete. Their products are designed to encourage proper sleeping posture and are geared toward sleepers with an active lifestyle.

The SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid is one of two mattresses available from the company. The company also sells the SpineAlign Pillow as well as sheets, mattress protectors, and mattress foundations.

The Luxury Foam Hybrid features two to three individual foam layers in its comfort system, depending on the firmness option you choose, along with pocketed coils and high-density base foam in the support core. The “Firm” option is medium firm (6) and measures 12 inches thick, while the “Medium” has a medium (5) feel and is 13 inches thick.

We’ll cover the key aspects of the SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid to help you determine if it is the right bed for you. First, we’ll breakdown the construction materials, price, and performance for a variety of sleepers. Finally, we’ll discuss the shipping, sleep trial, and warranty policies.

Choose Firm if:Choose Medium if:
you’re a side or back sleeper who weighs between 130 and 230 pounds. This is a “goldilocks” level of firmness for these sleepers, not too soft and not too firm.you’re a back or side sleeper weighing less than 130 pounds. The medium option rates highly for this group because it provides responsive support and prevents excess sinkage.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers tend to develop pressure points at the hips and shoulders. If the mattress is too firm, these joints may be impacted and become painful. If the mattress is too soft, sleepers may sink too deeply into the mattress and risk spinal misalignment.

The SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid meets the needs of many side sleepers by providing ample support and contouring to common pressure points. The foam layers contour to a side sleeper’s hips and shoulders, while the coil core limits sinkage. However, sleepers of different weights will require different firmness levels.

Side sleepers above 230 pounds will likely find more comfort with the Firm design. For side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds, the Firm or Medium options should both feel comfortable as either will ensure you do not sink too deeply into the mattress. Side sleepers under 130 pounds will probably find the best balance of pressure relief and support in the Medium model.

Back Sleepers

Because back sleepers typically experience the most pressure in the lumbar area, they require a mattress that cushions the lower back without sinking excessively. Therefore, these sleepers usually do best with medium firm or firm models.

The polyfoam layers and pocketed coils of the SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid – Firm provide strong support to back sleepers. Our team found that the Firm option is best for back sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds and to a lesser extent those between 130 and 230 pounds. While it may not contour closely enough for some back sleepers in this weight group, the foams are fairly adaptive without sinking too much.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers are at risk of their stomachs sinking into a “U” shape if the mattress is too soft. Because of this, most stomach sleepers require a medium or firm mattress with good abdominal support and a little cushioning for comfort.

The Luxury Foam Hybrid’s Firm design provides average support for stomach sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds. This model cushions without too much contouring to gently cradle a stomach sleeper’s body while preventing it from sinking in excessively. Additionally, the mattress’s pocketed coils promote proper spinal alignment.

Stomach sleepers who weigh less 130 pounds may receive sufficient support from the Medium model, but those in heavier weight groups may experience excessive sinkage in the midsection.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7 / 10

Medium: 7.5 / 10

Firm: 6 / 10

Motion isolation refers to keeping vibrations on one part of the mattress, rather than distributing movement across the bed. This trait is especially important for those who sleep with someone else. Partners are less likely to disturb each other when getting into and out of bed or rolling over on a mattress that isolates motion well.

The medium SpineAlign Luxury Hybrid rates above average for motion isolation, while the firm option rates around average. The multi-layer comfort system prevents most vibrations from reaching the core, and the pocketed coils limit the spread of motion across the support layer. Most sleepers are likely to experience little disturbance from partners during sleep regardless of the firmness level they select, but the softer model does slightly outperform its firmer counterpart in this category.

Pressure Relief

7 / 10

Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 6 / 10

Sleepers put pressure on various joints depending on their sleeping position. A mattress that has good pressure relief can help sleepers experience less pain or discomfort during sleep. Both firmness levels of the SpineAlign Luxury Hybrid provide solid pressure relief.

The top foam layers adapt to the sleeper’s body. Additionally, the pocketed coils of the core respond to movement individually, which allows them to adjust to the sleeper’s position and provide both support and pressure relief.

Sleepers typically get the best pressure relief when they select a firmness that corresponds to their weight and sleep position. Side sleepers and lighter people usually prefer slightly softer options, while stomach sleepers, back sleepers, and heavier individuals often favor firmer models.

Temperature Control

7.5 / 10

Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 6 / 10

Hybrid mattresses are known for regulating temperature better than all-foam mattresses, especially those constructed of memory foam. Like most hybrid models, the SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid regulates temperature well.

That said, the mattress contains thick foam layers that may trap heat and feel warm. Cooling gel and copper infusions are intended to dissipate heat from the surface, but people who normally sleep hot on foam may still find the Luxury Foam Hybrid uncomfortable.

Edge Support

8.5 / 10

Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 7.5 / 10

Edge support refers to the firmness of the sides of the bed. Stronger coils around the perimeter of the SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid’s coil system reinforce the sides to ensure the edges remain supportive over time. The firm option of the mattress has above average edge support, while the medium model provides average edge support.

Beds with poor edge support over time tend to sag. This limits the overall usable area of the mattress. Sleepers on mattresses with poor edge support may feel as if they will roll off the bed during sleep. It can also make getting into and out of bed more difficult. Hybrid and innerspring mattresses tend to rate highly for edge support because of their coil layers.

Ease of Movement

6.5 / 10

Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 6 / 10

Ease of movement on the SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid is average. The memory foam layers restrict movement somewhat, but this is balanced out by the responsiveness from the coils. The support core of pocketed coils and dense polyfoam create a surface that “bounces back.”

The Firm model allows for greater ease of movement. Sleepers should not expect difficulty changing positions during sleep or getting into and out of bed. Firmer mattresses tend to have less sink than softer models. The Medium option has thicker memory foam layers and will inhibit more movement.

Off-Gassing

7 / 10

Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 6 / 10

Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) upon unwrapping a mattress. These VOCs may have a slight odor that some find unpleasant. However, the smell dissipates quickly in a well-ventilated room.

The SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid produces some off-gassing odor at first. This can be attributed to the thick foam layers. Smells can take a few days to dissipate completely. However, the Luxury Foam Hybrid’s foams are CertiPUR-US certified, which means the mattress is free of certain potential toxins and emits low VOC levels.

SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid is available in two designs. The Firm model has a medium firm (6) feel and measures 12 inches thick. The Medium model has a medium (5) feel and measures 13 inches thick.

Both versions of the mattress contain foam layers in their comfort systems, though measurements differ slightly by firmness. They also include a support core with pocketed coils and dense base foam. The cover is composed of a stretchy fabric.

In both models, the comfort system includes a memory foam layer infused with copper for cooling purposes. The Medium model features an additional memory foam layer infused with a cooling gel. The memory foam layers are followed by a polyfoam layer that contours evenly while pushing back against your weight.

The 8-inch coils are individually encased in fabric and designed to move independently, so the mattress is responsive while still isolating motion. A dense base foam layer helps support the coils and allows them to compress for added pressure relief.

Availability

The SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrid is available exclusively from the SpineAlign website. SpineAlign does not operate any brick and mortar stores.

The mattress ships in the United States and Canada.

Shipping

SpineAlign ships the mattress free via FedEx Ground or USPS anywhere in the contiguous United States. Shipping is also available to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada for an additional charge.

SpineAlign Luxury Foam Hybrids are made to order. Orders take between 7 and 14 business days to process, build, and deliver. Mattresses are shipped from the West Coast of the United States, so delivery times may be shorter for those located in the region.

Customers must set up their own mattress. The mattress arrives in a box and is compressed and wrapped in plastic. Customers should carefully cut open the plastic to allow the mattress to decompress. The mattress should be mostly decompressed within a few minutes, but it may take up to 24 hours to fully decompress after unwrapping. SpineAlign recommends customers wait 3–5 hours before laying on the mattress.

Additional Services

Old mattress removal and white glove delivery services are not available from SpineAlign.

Sleep Trial

SpineAlign offers a 60-day sleep trial. Customers are required to sleep on the mattress for 30 nights from the delivery date before initiating a return. Customers who choose to return or exchange their mattress before the 30 day break-in period will have 25% of the mattress price deducted from their refund. The 60-night guarantee is void if the mattress leaves the United States.

After the 30 day break-in period, customers can decide if they would like to exchange for a different firmness level or return the mattress. Customers should initiate an exchange or return by emailing SpineAlign. Mattresses with stains or tears are ineligible for return. Once you initiate the process, the mattress must be returned within 30 days.

Refunds will be given with proof of donation to a charity or donation center. Customers should also have pictures of the mattress, legal tag, and mattress base.

Warranty

The SpineAlign Luxury Hybrid has a 5-year limited warranty. This warranty begins on the date you place your order and is non-transferrable. It covers defects such as body indentations 1 inch or greater and deterioration of foam from normal usage. A replacement mattress will be provided if a defect is found.

The warranty does not cover abuse, physical damage, minor imperfections, or normal wear and tear. Mattresses must be used on proper foundations or the warranty is voided.
