The Simmons Bedding Company includes recognizable brands such as Beautyrest, Serta, and Tuft & Needle. Like its sister companies, Simmons has its own retail website, and its mattresses are also sold at various physical stores throughout the U.S.
Simmons offers three mattress models: Plush, Medium, and Firm. The Plush and Medium models come in memory foam and hybrid options, while the Firm model is only available as a memory foam mattress.
The Plush Mattress offers ample cushioning that may appeal to those who need additional pressure relief. The Firm Mattress is tailored more to stomach and back sleepers, or anyone who prefers a sturdier feel.
Simmons’ best-selling model is the Medium Mattress, which accommodates a range of sleepers. The all-foam mattress combines memory foam and polyfoam layers and has a medium soft (4) feel. The slightly firmer hybrid also has a memory foam comfort system but uses pocketed coils for the support core. The hybrid rates as a medium (5) on the 10-point firmness scale. Both models have 10-inch profiles and a cooling polyester cover.
We’ll cover everything you need to know about the Medium Mattress, including its materials, pricing, warranty, and how to care for it. We’ll also compare the feel and performance of the two models so you can decide which is the best mattress for you.
The Simmons Medium Mattress is available in two models. The memory foam version has a medium soft (4) feel, while the hybrid has a medium (5) firmness level. Personal preference, body weight, and sleep position can help you choose the best mattress firmness for your needs.
- Choose Medium Soft if… you enjoy a closely contouring mattress that provides generous cushioning. The Simmons Medium’s notable sinkage eases pressure points for side sleepers and people under 130 pounds. The thick comfort layers also help alleviate tension for those with sore muscles and stiff joints.
- Choose Medium if… you like a combination of cradling and bounce. This mattress’ plush memory foam relieves pressure buildup, while the pocketed coil core prevents sleepers from sinking excessively. We found that the medium feel balances contouring and support for most sleepers up to 230 pounds.

Answer a few questions to find the right mattress for your unique needs
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
The best mattress for side sleepers is generally a medium soft to medium mattress with substantial cushioning. Both Simmons Medium models fall into this firmness range and performed well for the majority of our side sleepers.
Plush memory foam cradles the body and alleviates tension along the spine. The comfort system permits enough sinkage to ease pressure points at the hips and shoulders without distorting spinal alignment.
The hybrid delivers an ideal balance of cushioning and support for side sleepers in any weight bracket. The all-foam mattress also reinforces good spine alignment for side sleepers under 230 pounds, but deep sinkage could be an issue for those over 230 pounds. These sleepers may feel more supported on the sturdier hybrid.
Back Sleepers
A medium firm mattress usually works best for back sleepers, as they need just moderate contouring to align the spine. We found that performance on the Simmons Medium Mattress for back sleepers is mixed, depending on firmness level and sleeper body weight.
The hybrid is a better choice for back sleepers overall, as its medium (5) feel supports the lumbar region while cushioning the shoulders and legs. However, back sleepers over 230 pounds may experience deep sinkage below the torso area, causing the spine to curve uncomfortably. The best mattresses for heavy sleepers are generally firmer than either of these two models.
Since the memory foam model is softer than the hybrid, the support may be inadequate for back sleepers over 130 pounds. The polyfoam support core isn’t as sturdy as steel coils, so excess sagging may occur below the midsection. That said, the medium soft feel on the memory foam model will likely strike the right balance of contouring and support for back sleepers under 130 pounds since they don’t sink into a mattress as much.
Stomach Sleepers
Like back sleepers, stomach sleepers usually require a firmer mattress to keep the spine level. This means that the sturdier hybrid is better equipped to support the majority of stomach sleepers. Robust steel coils prevent the midsection from dipping too low, minimizing strain on the lower back. However, stomach sleepers over 230 pounds may find they sink uncomfortably below the midsection, which can throw off spine alignment.
Our in-house testing showed that the memory foam mattress worked best for stomach sleepers under 130 pounds. Because these sleepers don’t sink as much, they get a good amount of cushioning while still feeling supported in the midsection. Stomach sleepers over 130 pounds will sink in more deeply, which may lead to aches and pains the next morning.

Simmons Medium Mattress Review Breakdown
The Simmons Medium Mattress comes in two models: memory foam or hybrid. Both versions are 10 inches tall, but they vary in construction and feel. The hybrid is a medium (5) on the 10-point firmness scale, while the memory foam rates as medium soft (4).
Both models feature a Cool Climate polyester cover designed to wick away heat and moisture. The cover is not removable and should only be spot-treated as needed.
The all-foam mattress has a memory foam comfort system that cushions pressure points along the spine, hips, and shoulders. The gel infusions are designed to minimize heat retention, while the transitional memory foam layer helps spread body weight evenly across the mattress and absorb excess motion. The dense polyfoam base promotes good spine alignment by reinforcing the heavier torso area.
The hybrid also uses gel-infused memory foam to provide cushion without trapping too much heat. A pocketed coil core stabilizes the mattress and increases the mattress’ responsiveness, though each spring is encased in fabric to limit motion transfer. Space between coils promotes airflow throughout the mattress.
All of the foams used in Simmons mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified, indicating that they are free of formaldehyde, heavy metals, and other contaminants.
Simmons recommends rotating the mattress periodically to promote even wear. The company also suggests using a mattress protector to safeguard against spills and accidents.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
Both versions of the Simmons Medium Mattress have below-average price-points, but the hybrid is an especially good value since it has a more complex construction.
While the Medium Hybrid is more expensive than the Medium Memory Foam Mattress, the difference is pretty negligible. Both versions are suitable for people looking to furnish a guest bedroom without breaking the bank.
The Simmons Medium Mattress is available in all standard sizes, excluding California King. At 10 inches thick, the mattress is considered an average height. The hybrid weighs somewhat more than the memory foam model due to its steel coils.
