Canadian-based Silk & Snow strives to find a sweet spot combining affordability and comfort. Among its diverse product line of bedding and other accessories, the Silk & Snow Hybrid is a well-built mattress that takes advantage of the benefits of both coils and memory foam.
Silk & Snow offers two versions of this mattress. The standard model is 12 inches tall, and the plush model is 14 inches tall and has a plusher feel from an additional layer of memory foam. Both versions offer significant pressure relief and motion isolation, making them a good fit for couples and people who want plenty of cushioning from their mattress.
To fully break down the benefits and drawbacks of this mattress, our team put the Silk & Snow Hybrid through a detailed evaluation in our test lab. We cover the results of that testing and review other essential background information to help you assess whether the Silk & Snow Hybrid aligns with your sleep needs.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

Combination sleeper

Sleeps with noise machine
I have not stopped thinking about this mattress since trying it out. I’ve slept on a memory foam bed for years and have no complaints, but the Silk & Snow Hybrid has me wanting to make the switch (which feels like an upgrade). I sleep mostly on my side and sometimes on my back, so it can be tough to find a mattress that supports both positions equally, but this bed does just that. The mattress cover has the potential to warm up, but that’s nothing the right sheet can’t fix.

As a back sleeper, I had a great time on the Silk & Snow Hybrid. It’s well-balanced. The foams are pretty comfortable, the coils are nice and supportive, and it stayed cool enough through the night.

The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress has a luxurious feel that I enjoyed. My movement from one sleeping position to another was unimpeded, which really helped me stay in the sleep zone. I did feel some movement when my partner shifted around but it was isolated fairly well.

Side Sleepers
Both models of the Silk & Snow Hybrid can appeal to side sleepers, who need cushioning around the hips and shoulders since that’s where the body presses harder against the mattress. The memory foam in the Silk & Snow Hybrid cradles those pressure points and promotes spinal alignment when lying on your side.
Which model performs best depends largely on body weight. The plush model works best for side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds since the softer surface has more give to adapt to their body. The standard model offers better results for side sleepers over 130 pounds. In our test lab, these sleepers appreciated the balance of ample cushioning and a medium firm (6) feel.
Nevertheless, this mattress is not always a home run for side sleepers. Sleepers over 230 pounds may find that the standard model lacks cushioning while the plush model allows excess sinkage.
Back Sleepers
In our test lab, the standard model of the Silk & Snow Hybrid was effective at providing support for many back sleepers. Back sleepers under 130 pounds gave the highest ratings. They felt that the mattress had the right blend of firmness, responsiveness, and cushioning to provide comfort around the lower back.
Back sleepers over 230 pounds tend to find both of these models to be too soft to be able to give them optimal support. Especially on the plush model, they found their midsection could push into the memory foam and make it harder to keep the spine in a neutral posture.
Stomach Sleepers
The stomach sleepers on our testing team generally didn’t love the Silk & Snow Hybrid. Because they need a firm and even sleep surface, they were often turned off by the hug of the foam layers and the lack of firmness, especially in the plush model.
Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds may find support and comfort on the Silk & Snow Hybrid since they don’t sink as deeply into the top layers of the mattress. Most other stomach sleepers are likely to get better results with a mattress that is firmer and has more pushback under the midsection.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
7
/ 10
The Silk and Snow Hybrid handles motion isolation fairly well. Movements were kept mainly to one side of the mattress and my sleep was undisturbed. – Jeremy
The Silk and Snow Hybrid effectively isolates motion, cutting down on most sleep interruptions when your bed partner rolls over, switches positions, or gets in or out of bed. The mattress performs well in this category because of its contouring foams, especially memory foam, that can contain vibrations from movement.
The plush model, in particular, offers standout motion isolation thanks to its two layers of memory foam. Couples can generally sleep soundly on either version of this mattress without having to worry about being stirred awake when their bed partner moves.
Pressure Relief
7.5
/ 10
The memory foam layers in this mattress feel plush and comfortable and do an exceptional job at relieving pressure in my shoulders and hips when side sleeping. But it also conforms perfectly to my spine when sleeping on my back, leaving no gaps between me and the mattress. – Mary
The foam materials in the Silk & Snow Hybrid work in combination to redistribute your weight instead of concentrating it in one spot on the mattress surface. This relieves impact and pressure, which can minimize joint pain and enhance spinal alignment.
In our testing, both models offered impressive pressure relief, but the plush model had the edge. With two layers of contouring memory foam, it demonstrates a strong ability to cradle heavier parts of the body and avoid pressure buildup. That said, many stomach sleepers may find that these same characteristics are problematic, since they can cause the abdomen to sink in deeply and fall out of line with the rest of the spine.
Temperature Control
7
/ 10
The Silk & Snow felt pretty similar to most hybrids when it came to heat buildup at night. Airflow through the bed’s coils keeps the surface decently cool. I have breathable sheets and slept just fine, but I’m on the fence about whether the bed would work for me in the summer. – Danny
The Silk & Snow Hybrid rates as roughly average for temperature control. Foam comfort layers are notorious for building up heat, although the medium firm (6) model uses gel-infused foams to try to counteract this effect. In addition, the coil support core resists heat buildup since air can flow around the coils.
The plush model sleeps warmer than the standard version of this mattress. It has thicker layers of memory foam and a softer feel, which means more hug and less air circulating around your skin.
If you’re a really hot sleeper, you may find yourself overheating on the Silk & Snow Hybrid, especially during warmer months. But if sleeping hot isn’t a problem for you, this mattress likely will keep you at a comfortable temperature.
Edge Support
6.5
/ 10
Considering the Silk & Snow Hybrid is topped with memory foam, its edge support is really solid. The perimeter is reinforced with firmer foam, which helps to not feel like I’m sliding off when sleeping close to the edge. – Mary
The design of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is intended to improve edge support relative to many other mattresses with foam comfort layers. In the support core, a thick wall of high-density polyfoam runs along the perimeter, which hedges against excess sinking in the top layers.
With this design, the edges of the mattress feel pretty sturdy even though you’ll notice the foam compressing. On the plush model, though, the perimeter is noticeably weaker because of the additional layer of soft memory foam.
Ease of Movement
6.5
/ 10
Sometimes I shift from one position to the other during the night. Being able to move easily is central to getting a good night’s sleep, and the coil core of the Silk and Snow Hybrid made this struggle-free. – Jeremy
While the Silk & Snow Hybrid isn’t the easiest mattress to move around on, it doesn’t pose major barriers to movement, either. Most of the time, memory foam seriously inhibits ease of movement. But on the Silk & Snow Hybrid, our testers found that the coils provided enough bounce to move without resistance.
Sleepers over 230 pounds are more likely to encounter difficulties when trying to move on this bed because they will sink more into the contouring foams. Ease of motion is also considerably worse on the plush model of this hybrid.
Off-Gassing
7
/ 10
The Silk & Snow Hybrid’s a foamier hybrid, so there was a stronger foam smell fresh out of the box. That being said, it wasn’t really an issue. We left the bed to air out for about 6 hours and it smelled fine enough to lay on after that. – Danny
For a mattress with foam materials, the Silk & Snow Hybrid only gave off a minor smell in our test lab. The smell was less than many other new mattresses, but it’s still detectable when you’ve first taken the Silk & Snow Hybrid out of the box.
The plush model has thicker foam layers, which can give off a slightly more pronounced odor. But none of these smells pose any risk to your health. If your bedroom has decent ventilation, the smell should go away in the span of a few hours to a few days.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is 12 inches tall and rates as medium firm, or around 6 on the 10-point firmness scale. The plush model is 14 inches tall and has a medium soft (4) firmness level.
Both versions of the mattress have a polyester cover engineered to be antimicrobial. The support core is the same in the two models as well. It is composed of an 8-inch layer of pocketed innerspring coils. Those coils are reinforced in specific zones where more weight tends to be applied. There is a dense foam casing that goes around the exterior of the coils to enhance edge support.
In the standard model, the top layer of the mattress is made of 1 inch of gel-infused polyfoam that cushions the body of the bed without significant sinkage. The next layer is 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam that helps the mattress contour to high-impact areas and pressure points.
The plush model has a different comfort system. Its top layer is 1 inch of quilted memory foam, and the subsequent layer is made with 2 inches of memory foam. These two layers combine to provide deep conforming and noticeable hug. Beneath the memory foam is 2 inches of resilient polyfoam designed to limit sagging or sinking into the mattress.
