Nolah is an online mattress company that was established in 2015 and manufactures all of its mattresses in the U.S. With a focus on innovating beyond traditional memory foam, Nolah now offers a range of all-foam and latex hybrid models that are designed to achieve a balance of comfort and support. Nolah’s product line includes multiple mattress options as well as pillows, sheets, bed bases, and mattress protectors, all of which are sold directly from the company’s website.

The Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress is 12 inches tall and has a medium (5) feel. It is similar to the company’s Nolah Signature Mattress but features additional layers of polyfoam in the support core. While not technically a hybrid mattress, the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid features a support core made of polyfoam engineered to emulate the support found in traditional hybrids.

Other models from Nolah include the Nolah Original, a 10-inch all-foam mattress, the Nolah Natural, an 11-inch latex hybrid, and the Nolah Evolution, a 15-inch foam hybrid. Nolah also offers the Nolah Nurture, a 10-inch latex hybrid created for children.

We’ll cover the Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress’ materials and construction, how it fared during performance testing, and details about its pricing, sizing, and warranty so you can determine if it’s the best mattress for your needs.

Side Sleepers

Designed with side sleepers in mind, the Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid excels at supporting those who sleep on their sides and weigh less than 230 pounds.

Side sleepers benefit from a mattress that is soft enough to conform to their body while still retaining enough support and cushioning to keep their spine in alignment. During testing, side sleepers under 230 pounds reported that the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid provided the right balance of contouring and support to effectively reduce pressure points from forming while keeping the spine in alignment.

While each sleeper’s needs depend on their body and preferences, Nolah’s Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid may be too soft for side sleepers over 230 pounds. People in this weight category may find that a firmer mattress offers more comfort and support since it helps prevent excessive sinkage.

Back Sleepers

While our lightweight back-sleeping testers gave the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid average marks, back sleepers over 130 pounds felt the mattress was too soft to provide adequate support.

Mattresses that are too soft can cause a heavier sleeper’s hips and midsection to sink too deeply into the mattress and shift their spine out of alignment. Back sleepers generally prefer a firmer sleeping surface, especially back sleepers over 130 pounds. Back sleepers in this weight category gave the mattress below-average marks.

Stomach Sleepers

With a medium (5) feel, our team found that Nolah’s Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid was moderately comfortable for stomach sleepers under 130 pounds. Testing also indicated that the mattress did not have the right balance of cushion and support for stomach sleepers over 130 pounds.

Finding the optimal level of firmness is key for stomach sleepers. Without enough support, a person’s stomach may sink too far into the mattress, causing their spine to fall out of alignment. Most stomach sleepers should find it easier to retain healthy spinal alignment on a firmer surface that offers moderate contouring.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

9 / 10

The Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid stands out in its ability to reduce motion transfer. Its thick layers of foam effectively absorb and minimize motion transfer across the bed.

Our testers were impressed by the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid’s ability to reduce motion, observing minimal disturbance during motion isolation tests. Even light sleepers should feel little to no movement when their partner changes position or gets in and out of bed.

Overall, the Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress offers a plush, conforming surface that effectively absorbs motion, making it ideal for those who share their bed with a partner, child, or pet.

Pressure Relief

8.5 / 10

The Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid offers good pressure relief that is on par with other foam models. With moderate contouring, the mattress can adapt to the body and support key pressure points, such as the hips and shoulders.

Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam Flex system is designed to mimic a coil support core in traditional hybrid models, which also helps to enhance support and maintain spinal alignment.

While the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid ranked below some other Nolah mattresses in our pressure relief tests, it performed exceptionally well for side sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds.

Temperature Control

6 / 10

Our testers found the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid regulated temperature better than other all-foam mattresses, making it a compelling choice for people who sleep hot.

Effective temperature control means that a mattress can regulate warmth on its surface and not trap a sleeper’s body heat. This mattress achieves that goal through the specific formulation of the foam layers.

Nolah’s AirFoam technology is designed to promote breathability. The material’s unique weave is engineered to allow air to move between layers, providing circulation that helps keep sleepers cool.

Edge Support

7 / 10

Like other foam mattresses, the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid received below-average marks during testing. Our testers noticed excessive sagging when they sat or slept near the edge of the bed.

Good edge support allows sleepers to use more of a mattress’ surface area by providing enhanced support around the perimeter.

Support along a mattress’ edge is also useful for sleepers over 230 pounds and those who regularly sit on the edge of the bed. These sleepers may prefer the more robust edge support found in mattresses that are firmer or feature a reinforced perimeter.

Ease of Movement

6 / 10

We found the Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress made it easy to move across the surface or switch positions.

The AirFoam comfort layers and AirFoam Flex polyfoam support core allowed the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid to outperform Nolah’s standard Signature Mattress in ease of movement testing.

Sleepers who prefer a mattress that facilitates movement may also enjoy the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid over memory foam mattresses. Unlike memory foam, Nolah’s AirFoam regains its original shape quickly after weight is lifted, which helps prevent sleepers from feeling trapped or stuck in bed

Off-Gassing

6.5 / 10

New mattresses often emit a chemical-like smell in a process known as off-gassing. This happens due to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when the mattress is unpackaged. While VOCs are not considered harmful, the off-gassing smell may be unpleasant to some.

The Puffin’s off-gassing is pretty typical for an all-foam design. The odor should dissipate quickly, and setting up the mattress in a well-ventilated area can help expedite the process.

Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid is constructed using five layers of polyfoam with an organic cotton cover. Together, these layers total 12 inches in thickness.

Despite its name, the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid is not a traditional hybrid mattress because it lacks a coil support core. Instead, this mattress attempts to mimic the feel of a hybrid mattress through foams with specific design elements.

The top two layers of the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid are made of adaptive polyfoam. The uppermost layer consists of 2.5 inches of Nolah’s patented AirFoam, which is engineered to be breathable, cushioning, and responsive. An additional 2-inch comfort layer provides an additional inch of support compared to Nolah’s Signature Mattress.

While the support core in the standard Nolah Signature Mattress is composed of 7 inches of high-density AirFoam, the Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid’s support core is made up of three different polyfoam layers designed to promote airflow and regulate temperature.

The support core includes a 3-inch layer of dense polyfoam sandwiched between 2-inch layers of micro-cut, aerated polyfoam. The AirFoam Flex system is engineered to mimic innerspring coils and improve the mattress’ responsiveness and bounce.

The mattress cover is composed of organic cotton, which is designed to add softness and wick away moisture.
