Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

At a Glance
The Nectar Premier is a memory foam mattress that excels at pressure relief and motion isolation. The sticker price is budget-friendly, and customers can test out the mattress for an entire year before deciding whether to keep it or return it.
Nectar produces mattresses, bedding, and furniture, with a focus on value and comfort. The company currently offers several mattress models, including the Nectar Classic, Nectar Premier, and Nectar Luxe. All three mattresses feature a foam construction, but differ in height, materials, and price. The Premier models are the brand’s latest additions to its product line.
The Nectar Premier, which we’ll focus on, provides a balance between sturdy support and gentle contouring. This allows sleepers to sink slightly into the mattress, which has a medium firm (6) feel.
The Premier isolates motion, so sleepers can shift positions and get in and out of bed without disturbing their partner. This mattress might also be a good fit for people with back pain or joint issues, as it hugs the body’s contours and relieves pressure points.
We’ll take a closer look at how the Nectar Premier Mattress performs in terms of temperature regulation, edge support, and durability, among other factors. We’ll also break down which sleepers may benefit most from the mattress, and what to keep in mind when considering the Nectar Premier.

Although the Premier felt a bit too soft for me, I liked how the foam layers cushioned my sore spots. This mattress should be a good match for anyone who constantly deals with soreness or stiffness.

Side Sleepers
This mattress might be particularly beneficial for people who weigh more than 130 pounds because they tend to sink into the mattress more than lighter sleepers. Individuals weighing less than 130 pounds should still feel supported, though some may prefer a softer sleep surface.
Side sleeping causes the hips and shoulders to press into the mattress, potentially creating painful pressure points. The Nectar Premier Mattress’ all-foam construction provides excellent support for side sleepers of all weight groups. The mattress is soft enough to contour to the shape of the body and relieve pressure, while promoting spinal alignment.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds will sink into the mattress more, but most will still find that it provides plenty of support.
Back sleepers tend to keep their spine in neutral alignment, but still benefit from a contouring mattress. The Nectar Premier balances the contouring of memory foam with the full-body support of polyfoam. This helps keep the spine aligned while cushioning the lumbar region. This is especially beneficial for back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds.
Stomach Sleepers
While the Nectar Premier Mattress is medium firm, it offers plenty of support for stomach sleepers. The memory foam comfort layer cushions the upper body, while the transition layer of polyfoam prevents sleepers from sinking in too deeply. That said, stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may prefer a firmer model.
Stomach sleepers typically prefer a firm mattress that prevents their abdomen and hips from sinking in too deeply.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
9
/ 10
Motion isolation is one of the Premier’s biggest strengths. I didn’t notice any movement from my partner, and vice versa — the foam layers absorb motion exceptionally well. – Colin
Motion isolation in a mattress refers to how well it prevents movement from transferring from one area to another. Foam mattresses are often preferred by couples who prioritize motion isolation and want to minimize sleep disturbances.
The Nectar Premier Mattress offers top-notch motion isolation. The gel-infused memory foam is designed to keep sleepers from disturbing each other when shifting positions or getting in and out of bed.
Pressure Relief
6.5
/ 10
Our team was seriously impressed with the Nectar Premier’s pressure-relieving abilities. The memory foam layers provide just enough cradling to reduce pressure buildup in the shoulders, lower back, and hips. – Jackson
Pressure relief in a mattress allows sleepers to sink in proportionately to maintain spinal alignment. The Nectar Premier Mattress conforms to the shape of the body, ensuring that the neck, head, shoulders, and back are evenly supported.
Sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds will likely find that this mattress offers the ideal amount of pressure relief, providing enough support to give sleepers an even surface. Heavier individuals and those who sleep on their stomachs should still feel supported, but may prefer a firmer mattress to keep the abdomen from sinking in.
Temperature Control
6
/ 10
The Nectar Premier retains some heat, which is to be expected from an all-foam mattress, but most people won’t feel excessively warm. Cooling gel and phase change material in the top layer help the surface stay cool. – Danny
Many mattresses are made with materials that allow for enhanced airflow through the bed. Some mattresses also wick moisture away from the body to keep sleepers cool.
The Nectar Premier Mattress has a breathable fabric cover designed to wick away moisture and feel cool to the touch. The gel-infused comfort layer includes phase change material to help regulate temperature throughout the night. As a result, the Nectar Premier Mattress offers better temperature regulation than similar foam mattresses on the market.
That said, the foam layers underneath might trap body heat, preventing some hot sleepers from cooling down sufficiently. Heat retention might also be a concern for sleepers who sink more deeply into the mattress, as this can restrict airflow around the body.
Edge Support
7.5
/ 10
As with a lot of all-foam mattresses we’ve tested, the Nectar Premier sags a bit along the edges when weight is applied. This can cause issues when you get in and out of bed. – Colin
This mattress does not perform as well as other foam mattresses in terms of edge support, which is a mattress’ ability to support weight and prevent sagging at the edges.
Sleepers might find that the Nectar Premier Mattress noticeably sinks at the edges when getting in and out of bed. People who weigh more than 230 pounds might want to avoid sleeping near the edge, as they may feel like they are rolling off the bed. The lack of edge reinforcement also reduces the amount of usable surface area for couples.
Ease of Movement
6
/ 10
Some of our testers noticed resistance when moving on the Nectar Premier, but the relatively firm feel helps prevent deep sinkage. Anyone who weighs 230 pounds or less should have little to no trouble with this mattress. – Jackson
The Nectar Premier Mattress has an average rating for ease of movement. Memory foam has a tendency to restrict movement, as it allows sleepers to sink in to a certain extent and is slow to return to its original shape when pressure is removed. The Nectar Premier has 3 inches of memory foam as its top layer, which can make it harder to change positions as needed.
That said, the second layer of polyfoam prevents sleepers from sinking in too deeply. This helps make it easier to move around on the mattress.
Off-Gassing
6.5
/ 10
The Premier’s off-gassing odor is strong at first, but the smells should dissipate within a few days of unboxing. Placing the mattress in a well-ventilated room can help air it out prior to your first use. – Danny
Off-gassing refers to the initial odor of a product, which can be unpleasant for some users. In foam mattresses, the smell typically comes from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the foam breaking down.
The Nectar Premier Mattress may give off a slight smell during unboxing, but it should dissipate after 24 to 72 hours. Nectar’s foam materials are low in VOCs, which helps reduce the amount of initial off-gassing.
The Nectar Premier is a 13-inch foam mattress. The cover consists of polyester and nylon blend. The 6-inch comfort system contains a 3-inch layer of gel-infused memory foam with phase change material and a 3-inch layer of polyfoam. A 7-inch polyfoam core reinforces the comfort system and provides support.
Nectar designed this mattress to accommodate various sleeping positions and body types. The comfort and support layers help relieve pressure points that often cause pain in the back, hips, shoulders, and joints. The foam materials also inhibit motion transfer, allowing most people to rest undisturbed when sharing the bed with a partner.
The breathable cover allows increased airflow throughout the mattress. While the cover is intended to feel cool to the touch, sleepers may still notice the foam layers retain some heat.
The materials in the foam layers are CertiPUR-US certified, which means that they contain no flame retardants, mercury, heavy metals, or ozone depleters. This certification also indicates that this product underwent independent testing and has met the appropriate standards for durability and relatively low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Nectar offers this mattress in twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king sizes. The mattress is available in one firmness option, which is considered medium firm (6).
