The Nectar Premier Hybrid is part of the expanded product line from the Nectar brand, which made its name with the all-foam Nectar Classic Mattress. With all of their mattresses, Nectar offers a generous 365-night sleep trial.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid is designed to take advantage of the best characteristics of both innerspring coils and memory foam. With a firm (7) feel and balanced performance, the mattress can be supportive and comfortable to people who have many different sleep positions and body weights.

Our team wanted to take a closer look at the Premier Hybrid, so we brought it into our Seattle Test Lab. We present the findings from our testing and review other important information about this mattress, including its materials and pricing, to help you decide if this mattress is right for you.

Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

Side sleeper

140 lbs.

Too many pets in the bed

For a firm mattress, the Nectar Premier Hybrid was surprisingly effective at relieving pressure near my hips and shoulders. I think side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds will find it too firm, but most other side sleepers will really appreciate the mix of cushioning and bounce.

Combo sleeper

Sleeps with a noise machine

Combination sleepers like me need a dependable and sturdy mattress that can support different positions, and the Premier Hybrid lived up to that. It limited pressure buildup in my lower back but didn’t ever feel like it was going to give out beneath me.

Side sleeper

Like Logan, I was won over by how the Nectar Premier Hybrid was able to accommodate the sharp pressure points around my shoulders and hips. It also stayed at a more neutral temperature than most other mattresses with a memory foam top layer.

Side Sleepers

Our testing found that the Nectar Premier Hybrid is best for side sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds. Its robust coils keep the body supported while the memory foam promotes spinal alignment by effectively cradling the hips and shoulders.

Side sleepers under 130 pounds are more likely to find that the Premier Hybrid feels a bit too firm. While they can still get adequate support, they may not feel as comfortable on this mattress.

Back Sleepers

Most back sleepers get solid support from the Premier Hybrid, which got the highest marks from back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds.

In this position, a mattress needs to have enough pushback to keep the hips and abdomen from sinking down and falling out of alignment with the rest of the spine. With its firm (7) feel and responsive coils, the Premier Hybrid met this need. Its memory foam also cushioned the lumbar spine to minimize stress on lower back muscles.

That said, back sleepers over 230 pounds are likely to find that there’s a bit too much contouring for the mattress to provide them with optimal support.

Stomach Sleepers

In our testing, the Nectar Premier Hybrid worked best for stomach sleepers under 130 pounds. They found the mattress to be firm enough to support the midsection while offering light cushioning for comfort.

Stomach sleepers weighing 130 pounds or more tended to feel that the contouring memory foam in the top layer allowed their midsection to sink too deeply into the mattress, reducing the overall supportiveness of the Premier Hybrid.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7.5 / 10

“Motion isolation isn’t amazing on the Premier Hybrid, but it’s enough for most couples. When I was awake, I could tell when my partner or dog moved on another part of the mattress. But the vibrations are unlikely to shake you awake if you’re already asleep.” – Logan

The Nectar Premier Hybrid isolates motion slightly better than the typical hybrid. Its memory foam layer acts as a shock absorber that largely prevents movement from reverberating across the surface.

Any mattress with bouncy springs will generate some degree of motion transfer. So if you’re easily awakened, you may want to consider an all-foam mattress instead of a hybrid.

Pressure Relief

7.5 / 10

“Adaptive memory foam gives the Nectar Premier a strong score for pressure relief, but I also appreciated that there was a balanced feel instead of extreme contouring.” – Mary

While some firm mattresses can feel uncomfortably rigid, the Premier Hybrid balances comfort with support to optimize pressure relief.

The memory foam comfort layer eases impact around the joints, including the hips and shoulders of side sleepers. At the same time, the high-density polyfoam and coils work together to keep the mattress stable, allowing weight to be evenly distributed across the mattress.

Some sleepers may find the mattress too hard or too soft for ideal pressure relief, but our testing indicates that most people will feel supported on the Nectar Premier Hybrid.

Temperature Control

7.5 / 10

“I wouldn’t exactly call the Premier Hybrid a cooling mattress, but I found that it kept an even temperature without overheating.” – Brad

The Nectar Premier Hybrid resisted the dramatic heat retention that can happen in many mattresses with memory foam. For sleepers who usually overheat on memory foam mattresses, the Premier Hybrid can be a cooler alternative.

Several cooling features help it keep a neutral temperature, including specialty fabric in the cover, gel-infused foam, and coils that permit significant airflow.

Edge Support

7 / 10

“The edges of the mattress aren’t exceedingly strong or weak. For me, the edge support was sufficient, but sleepers over 230 pounds might find too much foam compression around the perimeter.” – Logan

Our testing observed average edge support on the Nectar Premier Hybrid. The edges didn’t feel like they were going to give out immediately, but they were also clearly weaker than other parts of the mattress.

For most people, this degree of edge support is sufficient for everyday needs. Nevertheless, it may be a concern for people with a higher body weight and for anyone who puts a priority on having a really robust mattress perimeter.

Ease of Movement

7 / 10

“Changing your position on the mattress isn’t particularly challenging on the Premier Hybrid. It’s not bouncy like a latex mattress, but the firmness and coils counteract resistance caused by the memory foam.” – Brad

Our testing team found that the Premier Hybrid scored about average for ease of movement. While memory foam can restrict movement, that’s less of a problem with this mattress because you don’t sink excessively into the memory foam. The pocketed coils also give the surface a bit of bounce, so it’s relatively easy to adjust your sleeping position.

As a result, most combination sleepers will have no problem getting comfortable on the Premier Hybrid. However, those who weigh over 230 pounds may sink in more and experience a bit more difficulty when moving on the mattress.

Off-Gassing

7.5 / 10

“Off-gassing from this mattress didn’t seem very significant to me. There was a light smell, similar to most hybrids, but it was gone within a few days.” – Mary

The majority of the Nectar Premier Hybrid is made of coils, which don’t off-gas. While some smell is given off by the brand-new foam materials, our team found the odor to be light and short-lived. It should dissipate within one to three days of setting up your mattress.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Nectar Premier Hybrid is firm, rating as a 7 on our firmness scale of 1-10. It measures 13 inches tall and has four interior layers.

At the top, there’s a 2-inch layer of gel-infused memory foam. This material is known for deep contouring that cushions the heaviest parts of the body. The gel is designed to keep excess heat from collecting in the foam.

The next layer is 2 inches of responsive polyfoam that supports a neutral spinal alignment by preventing sinkage.

The support system is made primarily of an 8-inch layer of pocketed coils. Each pocketed coil moves independently, allowing the mattress to better adapt to your body. Bounce from the coils helps keep you from feeling stuck in place, and reinforced edges are intended to prevent sagging around the perimeter.

A bottom layer of 1 inch of polyfoam under the coils helps limit vibrations and noise.

The quilted polyester blend cover is soft and breathable. It also includes specialty fibers meant to resist heat buildup.
