Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Nectar Luxe Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.
Brad Nehring
Senior Product Analyst
Side sleeper
215 lbs.
Sleeps with a weighted blanket
The Nectar Luxe is appealing to anyone who likes the performance of memory foam. The close contouring felt great around my hips and shoulders. The Luxe maintained a cooler temperature for me than most memory foam mattresses.
Mary Fenton
Head of Product Content
Side sleeper
150 lbs.
Sleeps with noise machine
I agree with Brad that the Luxe excels at cushioning the shoulders and hips. But the deep hug isn’t quite as appealing when sleeping on your back or stomach. The foam also restricts movement, which was an issue for me as a combination sleeper.
Logan Foley
Editorial Director
Side sleeper
140 lbs.
Has too many dogs in the bed
I felt comfortable and supported on this mattress, but what stood out to me was the fact that the thick layer of memory foam absorbed motion so well that I barely noticed movement on the other side of the bed.

Side Sleepers
Our testing found that the Nectar Luxe is an excellent mattress for side sleepers, especially those who weigh under 230 pounds. The comfort layers conform to the hips and shoulders, giving side sleepers the pressure relief they need to maintain good sleep posture.
Some side sleepers over 230 pounds felt that the foam layers allowed too much sinkage, and they were inclined to feel stuck in the mattress. They still gave the Nectar Luxe about average ratings, but the mattress was more positively reviewed by side sleepers under 230 pounds.
Back Sleepers
Among our back-sleeping testers, the Nectar Luxe was best suited to those who weigh less than 130 pounds. Back sleepers under this weight can benefit from the foam’s ability to cushion their lower back without worrying about sinking too deeply into the mattress.
Some back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds got sufficient support from the Nectar Luxe, but for them, the deep contouring and lack of firmness reduced its appeal. Those over 230 pounds said that the mattress was too plush to feel adequately supportive.
Stomach Sleepers
The majority of stomach sleepers find that the Nectar Luxe is too soft and allows too much sinkage to provide effective support. In this sleeping position, a person needs enough firmness under the midsection to keep the spine on an even plane. But in our testing, stomach sleepers felt their abdomen pushing deeply into the foam layers, preventing them from sleeping in a neutral spine position.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
8.5
/ 10
“If you want to remain oblivious to movement by a partner or pet on the other half of the mattress, the Nectar Luxe is for you. Unless someone is doing jumping jacks on the other side of the bed, you’ll only notice the slightest of vibrations when they move.” – Brad
Our team lauded the motion isolation of the Nectar Luxe. Its 3-inch layer of memory foam thoroughly absorbed vibrations, so you could barely detect movement on the other side of the mattress.
This characteristic of the Nectar Luxe makes it an appealing mattress for couples, especially if one bed partner is prone to waking up during the night.
Pressure Relief
8
/ 10
“Memory foam’s ability to mold to the body enhances the pressure relief offered by the Nectar Luxe. Personally, it felt best to me when sleeping on my side.” – Mary
The Nectar Luxe delivers an impressive level of pressure relief, especially for people who benefit from the deep hug of its comfort layers.
Memory foam compresses in direct response to the amount of pressure applied to it, which allows it to closely cradle the joints and heavier parts of the body. For many sleepers, this cushioning is essential to reducing pain and maintaining spinal alignment.
That said, not everyone loves this kind of contouring. We found that the Nectar Luxe was best for people under 230 pounds and especially enjoyed by side sleepers.
Temperature Control
7
/ 10
“I didn’t notice significant or bothersome heat retention. The Nectar Luxe is far from ice cold, but its ability to resist overheating is really impressive given the amount of memory foam it has.” – Logan
Our testing team found that the Nectar Luxe has more or less average temperature control, which is better than what you find in most memory foam mattresses. In general, memory foam is known for overheating. But Nectar has designed this mattress so that there’s enough breathability and heat dissipation that you don’t notice a buildup of body heat.
People who sleep really hot may not love this mattress, but most others should be able to sleep through the night comfortably.
Edge Support
7
/ 10
“One drawback of having a thick memory foam layer is that edge support suffers. I could feel considerable compression around the perimeter, primarily when I was sitting on the edge of the bed.” – Brad
The Nectar Luxe’s edge support can be lacking, especially for people with a higher body weight who frequently sit on the edge of their bed.
When lying down, our testing team didn’t feel that the foam compression around the perimeter was excessive. The edges did compress some but didn’t feel unstable. When sitting, though, the compression was more pronounced.
Based on our evaluation, we think that this mattress has enough edge support for most sleepers under 230 pounds. That said, the Nectar Luxe may not be the best fit for people who want a robust feel from edge to edge.
Ease of Movement
6
/ 10
“With deep contouring comes more difficulty moving on the mattress. At least that was my experience as a combination sleeper on the Luxe.” – Mary
During our testing, it was clear that the comfort layers of the Nectar Luxe could impede movement. When the mattress hugs you, it takes some effort to break out of the hug to change positions.
All of our testing team members noticed resistance to movement, but it was most bothersome to combination sleepers and to people over 230 pounds.
For some sleepers, the comfort and pressure relief of memory foam is worth the reduced ease of movement.
Off-Gassing
6.5
/ 10
“There’s a pretty strong smell that the Nectar Luxe gives off right when you unbox it. I found that it went away in about 72 hours, so I didn’t think it was too bad.” – Logan
Virtually any mattress with 14 inches of foam will give off a smell when you first remove its packaging. This smell comes from tiny compounds that are created during the manufacturing process and get sealed inside the plastic shrink-wrap used for shipping.
When these compounds are released, they can cause an odor in your bedroom. This odor likely doesn’t pose any health risk, but it can be bothersome, especially if you are sensitive to smells. In most cases, the smell should dissipate completely within a few days, and it may go away more quickly if your bedroom is well-ventilated.
The all-foam Nectar Luxe is 14 inches tall and has a firmness level of medium firm (6). The construction of the mattress interior involves three different foam layers.
At the top, there is a 3-inch layer of memory foam. Memory foam molds to your body, cradling your joints and other pressure points. Its ability to compress only in the specific areas where weight is applied allows memory foam to limit motion transfer across the mattress surface.
Below the memory foam is a 3-inch layer of adaptive polyfoam. This foam adds cushioning but also more pushback, allowing the mattress to have a balanced feel.
The support core consists of 8 inches of polyfoam. Compared to the other foams, this is a high-density formulation that serves as a sturdy platform for the comfort layers.
The cover of the Nectar Luxe is a soft polyester blend with interwoven cooling fibers intended to enable faster heat dissipation.
