Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.
One of Nectar’s high-end models, the Luxe Hybrid delivers a decadently plush surface that excels at pain and pressure relief. The thick foam layers also reduce motion well – a big selling point for couples.

Since its establishment 10 years ago, Nectar has gained a solid reputation for its mattresses and bedding accessories. The mattress-in-a-box company ships directly to customers and offers a lengthy sleep trial and warranty. Nectar products are available online and at select physical stores.
While known for its all-foam mattresses, Nectar recently added hybrids to its lineup. Current memory foam models include the Nectar, the Premier, and the Luxe (previously known as the Premier Copper). For those who prefer more bounce, the company offers the Classic Hybrid, the Premier Hybrid, and the Luxe Hybrid (previously known as the Premier Copper Hybrid). These models also incorporate cooling technology and have a firmer feel than Nectar’s all-foam mattresses.
We’ll review the Luxe Hybrid, Nectar’s high-end hybrid that features thicker comfort layers and components designed to minimize heat retention. We’ll also discuss how the mattress performs for different sleep styles to help you decide if it’s a good option for your needs.

Side Sleepers
Side sleepers across all weight brackets enjoyed a balance of cushioning and support in our testing. Memory foam alleviates sharp pressure points on the hips and shoulders, while dense polyfoam balances weight distribution.
While side sleepers usually favor soft mattresses, the firm (7) feel and substantial comfort system gives notable pressure relief and buffers sleepers from the solid support core. We found the firm feel was well suited to side sleepers over 230 pounds, as they don’t need as much cushioning to relieve pressure buildup.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers only require a modest amount of contouring to align the spine. Our testing revealed the mattress’ firm and responsive surface was a good match for back sleepers. Strong coils and dense polyfoam reduce sagging below the lumbar region. Adaptive memory foam permits just enough sinkage to relieve pressure on the back and shoulders. We also found the sturdy edges offered couples who sleep on their backs more stable support.
Stomach Sleepers
The mattress’ firm surface limits sagging beneath the torso for stomach sleepers across all weight ranges. By keeping the midsection level, stomach sleepers are less likely to strain the lower back. Our testers also noticed the plush memory foam eased pressure points in the shoulder and hip regions.
Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds may notice more sagging with time, especially if they share a bed. However, our testing determined that the mattress should enforce good spinal alignment for a considerable amount of time.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
8
/ 10
Even with a coil-based support core, our testers found the Luxe Hybrid had limited motion transfer. Thick comfort layers trap motion, while the polyfoam base absorbs excess bounce from the springs.
With good motion isolation, couples shouldn’t disrupt their partner each time they move. The mattress is also a good choice for light sleepers who share a bed with pets.
Pressure Relief
8
/ 10
We found the mattress’ blend of contouring and support delivered notable pressure relief for most sleepers.
A memory foam comfort layer evenly contours the body, while denser polyfoam layers promote neutral spinal alignment. Our testers noticed the solid support core reduced tension by distributing body weight evenly across the mattress.
A mattress is more prone to sagging as it ages, which can lead to aches and pains. The Luxe Hybrid’s firm surface, however, prevents the deep sinkage that can distort spinal alignment.
Temperature Control
7.5
/ 10
Gel infusions and phase change material are designed to circulate air in the foam, while phase change infusions are intended to draw heat away from sleepers.
Our testers noticed the responsive surface kept them on top of the mattress, which helped prevent overheating. Pocketed coils increase airflow more than traditional springs or a solid foam support core.
Sleepers over 230 pounds may notice mild heat retention. Those who sleep hot may want to consider Nectar’s Hybrid or Premier Hybrid, both of which have slightly better temperature control.
Edge Support
9
/ 10
Those who share a bed often prioritize strong edge support since it allows for more usable surface area. Thanks to the Luxe Hybrid’s reinforced edges, sleepers can still feel supported when sleeping on the sides of the mattress.
Stronger coils along the perimeter limited sagging, which our testers noticed made getting in and out of bed easier. The firm feel bolsters edge support by preventing excess sinkage.
Ease of Movement
7
/ 10
Close-conforming mattresses can sometimes inhibit movement. This isn’t the case with the Luxe Hybrid, as its firm and responsive surface prevents deep sinkage.
Our testing revealed combination sleepers especially benefited from staying on top of the mattress, as it made adjusting positions easier.
Off-Gassing
7.5
/ 10
Off-gassing refers to the odors caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are tiny particles found in foam. While the chemical-like smell can initially be strong, it eventually dissipates and is considered harmless.
Testing revealed the Luxe Hybrid’s off-gassing to be very mild. Once the mattress is unrolled, any noticeable odors should disappear within 48 hours. People with odor sensitivities can air out the mattress in a well-ventilated room.
The Nectar Luxe Hybrid combines a three-layer comfort system with a pocketed coil core. The five layers measure 14 inches total, making the mattress taller than average. A quilted cover is designed to wick away heat and moisture.
A 3-inch layer of memory foam delivers even contouring to help align the spine. Gel infusions and phase change material are engineered to sleep cooler than traditional memory foam. A 3-inch layer of high-density polyfoam below reinforces support for the hips and midsection.
The substantial core features 8 inches of responsive steel coils. The pocketed coil design is intended to reduce motion transfer, so movement on one side of the mattress shouldn’t be felt on the opposite end. Reinforced edges increase stability at the perimeter of the bed, giving sleepers more supportive surface area. A final layer of polyfoam stabilizes the coiled core and dampens noise from the springs.
The mattress has a firm feel that registers as a 7 on the 10-point firmness scale.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid Mattress Sizes
The Luxe Hybrid is available in all standard mattress sizes as well as a split king. The 14-inch profile is taller than average, so deep pocket sheets may be needed. The mattress is also fairly heavy, even in smaller sizes – we recommend lifting it with a partner.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies
Availability
The Luxe Hybrid is sold through the company’s website and in select online and brick-and-mortar stores.
Shipping
Nectar ships the mattress for free to the contiguous U.S. via FedEx or UPS Ground. A single mattress ships to Alaska or Hawaii for an additional $150. Most customers receive their mattress within one to two weeks of placing their order.
The mattress is vacuum-sealed in plastic and shipped in a box directly to your doorstep. Carrying the box may require extra assistance, and the mattress should only be unpackaged in the room where it will be used.
Once unrolled, the mattress fully expands within 48 hours. Nectar advises customers to decompress the mattress within 90 days of shipment. Failure to do so could impact the mattress’ quality and possibly void the warranty.
Additional Services
Customers can select White Glove delivery for an additional $149. Any Nectar foundation, frame, or headboard can be delivered and installed for an extra $45 per piece. Old mattress removal is possible upon request.
White Glove delivery fees are nonrefundable.
Sleep Trial
The Luxe Hybrid includes a 365-night sleep trial. Because it takes time to adjust to a new bed, Nectar asks customers to wait at least 30 days before requesting a return. After the initial break-in period, mattresses returned during the trial are eligible for a full refund. Nectar does not accept returns on damaged or dirty mattresses.
Warranty
Customers who purchase the mattress from Nectar or an authorized retailer are protected with a limited lifetime warranty.
Nectar replaces defective mattresses free of charge during the first 10 years of ownership. Beyond that, Nectar will either repair or replace a defective mattress. Customers are liable for a $100 fee that covers both shipping directions. Nectar waives shipping fees if a mattress is found defective. Customers can alternatively retain their defective mattress and purchase a new one at 50% of the original cost.
The warranty covers surface impressions larger than 1.5 inches, defects to the cover, and the splitting or cracking of foams. Damage caused by neglect, abuse, or an improper foundation are not covered. Refer to the company’s website for additional terms and conditions.
