Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

My Green Mattress is a family-owned company based in Illinois that creates sleep products with natural and certified organic materials. Its overarching goal is to provide comfort while limiting chemical exposure.
The company’s Kiwi Organic Mattress is a 10-inch-thick hybrid model with a medium (5) firmness level and an approachable price-point. It incorporates organic cotton and wool certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and organic Dunlop latex certified by the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS).
In addition to the standard Kiwi, My Green Mattress produces a version of that model that’s firm (7) and has an 8-inch profile designed to be compatible with many bunk bed frames. The company also makes the Natural Escape, which is slightly thicker and firmer than the standard Kiwi Organic Mattress, measuring 11 inches and rating as medium firm (6) on our 10-point firmness scale.
We’ll focus on the standard 10-inch version of the Kiwi Organic Mattress, breaking down its construction, pricing, and how it performed during our sleep lab tests.

Side Sleepers
The Kiwi Organic Mattress’ medium (5) feel, contouring comfort system, and zoned support core are well suited to side sleepers. Its wool batting gently cushions the surface, while the Dunlop latex comfort layer redistributes pressure from side sleepers’ hips and shoulders without sagging. Additionally, the mattress’ coil core is divided into seven firmness zones, providing targeted cradling and support to relieve pressure and promote good posture.
Across body types, all our testers found the Kiwi Organic Mattress comfortable for side sleeping, but it was closest to ideal for those under 230 pounds. Some of our testers over 230 pounds noted that their hips and shoulders could use slightly more support, though that didn’t significantly interfere with their overall comfort.
Back Sleepers
Maintaining proper spinal alignment is usually the highest priority for back sleepers, and the Kiwi Organic Mattress helps support that goal. The wool and latex comfort system has enough give for a back sleeper’s hips to sink in just a bit, accommodating the natural curvature of the lower back. At the same time, the zoned core provides extra lumbar support to promote good sleep posture.
Because of the model’s medium (5) feel, our team found the Kiwi Organic Mattress best suited for back sleepers under 130 pounds. Testers in this weight range reported that the mattress molded nicely to their back without letting their hips sag. Those over 130 pounds sunk in slightly more than ideal, though not enough to cause notable back strain.
Stomach Sleepers
Since stomach sleepers typically need the most support of any sleep position, the Kiwi Organic Mattress’ medium (5) feel is best suited to lighter individuals. Wool batting cushions the top of the mattress, so the surface is unlikely to feel hard against the front of a stomach sleeper’s body. Meanwhile, the latex redistributes a stomach sleeper’s weight to promote better posture, and the zoned core reduces midsection sinkage.
Our testers under 130 pounds were quite comfortable lying on their stomach on the Kiwi Organic Mattress. Those between 130 and 230 pounds received adequate support on the mattress, but team members over 230 pounds reported sinking in too deeply, which put pressure on the lumbar region.
Because the Kiwi Organic Mattress combines buoyant Dunlop latex with responsive coils, some motion may travel across the surface when a sleeper gets up or changes positions.
Our testers noted moderate motion transfer when we dropped a kettlebell on the opposite side of the bed. This level of motion transfer is unlikely to be a problem for deep sleepers or those who sleep alone. However, those who awaken easily may prefer a sleep surface that absorbs more vibrations, particularly if they have a partner who tosses and turns.
Pressure Relief
7
/ 10
As a medium (5) model, the Kiwi Organic Mattress is slightly softer than many latex hybrid options, giving it an edge in pressure relief. The wool batting quilted into the cover cushions the surface, and the latex comfort system cradles a sleeper’s body to reduce pressure buildup.
Since the coil core has seven firmness zones, it adds to the overall effect by providing more targeted support and contouring.
Our side sleepers under 230 pounds were most impressed by the balance of pressure relief and support, noting that their hips and shoulders sank in just enough to ease pressure in these areas.
Temperature Control
8
/ 10
Latex hybrid models are frequently among the best cooling mattresses on the market, and the Kiwi Organic Mattress follows suit. The cotton cover allows ample airflow, and the wool layer’s breathability and moisture-wicking abilities further enhance temperature regulation. In addition, air circulates through the Dunlop latex’s open-cell structure and the coil system, helping dissipate heat.
In our temperature readings, we detected very little heat buildup on the surface of the mattress, and our testers reported staying cool and comfortable throughout the assessment process.
Edge Support
7.5
/ 10
The Kiwi Organic Mattress offers moderate edge support compared with other latex hybrids we’ve tested.
The Dunlop latex comfort layer spreads compression over a relatively wide area, limiting the sinking sensation common in models with thick memory foam comfort systems. The support core incorporates tighter coils around the edge for extra support. However, the mattress’ medium firmness level makes the perimeter feel slightly less sturdy than firmer models.
Ease of Movement
8
/ 10
Thanks to its responsive materials, the Kiwi Organic Mattress facilitates movement well. The latex layer is supportive and buoyant, spreading out compression and regaining its original shape quickly when a sleeper moves. The pocketed coil core adds bounce to further aid movement.
During our tests, all our team members could change positions quickly and easily. Combination sleepers, active sleepers, and people with mobility issues may appreciate this springy sleep surface.
Off-Gassing
8
/ 10
The Kiwi Organic Mattress may start out with a slight rubbery scent due to its use of natural latex, but we found it lacks the typical new mattress smell associated with off-gassing. That’s because most mattress off-gassing odors are a result of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced during the manufacturing of synthetic foam.
Since the Kiwi Organic Mattress does not contain synthetic foam, it does not have the standard off-gassing odor.
My Green Mattress Kiwi Organic Mattress Review Breakdown
The My Green Mattress Kiwi Organic Mattress is a medium (5) hybrid model that measures 10 inches thick. This firmness is in the average range most sleepers typically prefer, and the height falls at the lower end of the standard range.
This model’s design starts with a breathable GOTS-certified organic cotton cover. A 1-inch layer of GOTS-certified organic wool is quilted into the cover, enhancing temperature regulation while serving as a natural fire barrier. Next, 2 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex provide additional air circulation, buoyant support, and even contouring.
Finally, an 8-inch layer of pocketed coils supports the comfort system and adds bounce. The coils are organized into seven firmness zones for targeted spinal support. Tighter coils around the perimeter help reinforce the edges, expanding the mattress’ usable surface area.
To avoid the use of chemical adhesives, button tufts hold the layers together. The Kiwi Organic Mattress holds MADE SAFE and GREENGUARD Gold certifications, verifying it meets environmental and health-based standards.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
The Kiwi Organic Mattress straddles the border between several mattress varieties. The best organic mattresses usually carry a premium price tag, as do the best latex mattresses and the best hybrid mattresses. While the Kiwi could fall into any of these categories, its price-point is lower than average across all three.
Certified organic materials, natural latex, and hybrid designs traditionally cost more for mattress manufacturers, justifying a higher cost for consumers. Since the Kiwi Organic Mattress has an approachable price tag, we consider it to be an excellent value.
In addition to the six standard mattress sizes, the Kiwi Organic Mattress also comes in full XL.
The Kiwi Organic Mattress is sold through the My Green Mattress website. It ships throughout the United States and Canada.
You can also see the Kiwi in person at My Green Mattress’ showroom in La Grange, Illinois.
Shipping
The Kiwi Organic Mattress ships for free via FedEx to addresses within the contiguous United States. Orders to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada incur shipping fees.
Most mattresses ship within one to three business days and arrive within two weeks. Each mattress is wrapped in plastic, rolled, and packaged in a box for shipping.
Additional Services
My Green Mattress does not currently offer in-home mattress setup services. However, old mattress removal is available for $130 per mattress through a third-party partner. You can select this option when adding the mattress to your cart. California residents are charged a small mattress recycling fee in lieu of the standard mattress removal charge.
Sleep Trial
The Kiwi Organic Mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial. After you’ve tried the mattress for the 30-night break-in period, it becomes eligible for return for the remainder of the trial window. My Green Mattress asks customers to contact the company to initiate a return, then donate the unwanted mattress and furnish proof of donation to receive a full refund of the purchase price.
You must use a mattress protector and keep the mattress free of damage to qualify.
Warranty
My Green Mattress provides a partially prorated, 20-year limited warranty for the Kiwi Organic Mattress. During the first 10 years, the company will repair or replace eligible mattresses at no charge. From years 11 through 20, customers incur a prorated charge and applicable shipping fees to replace the mattress.
Covered defects include visible indentations that measure 1.5 inches or deeper, structural problems with the coils, and fabric or stitching tears. Damage due to improper use, abuse, or normal wear and tear does not qualify for coverage.
