Side Sleepers

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress works well for side sleepers under 230 pounds, especially those between 130 and 230 pounds. Sleepers in this weight range generally sink into the bed enough to relieve pressure around their hips and shoulders while maintaining healthy spinal alignment. The mattress’ medium firm surface has some give, and the memory foam conforms closely to the body to redistribute pressure.

While this mattress is comfortable for many side sleepers, some under 130 pounds do not sink in deeply enough to benefit from the pressure relief. Those over 230 pounds are likely to sink in excessively. Without the necessary spinal support, the sleeper’s hips and shoulders may also press against the core, leading to pressure points.

Back Sleepers

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress was a favorite of our testers under 230 pounds who sleep on their back. They appreciated its medium firm feel and conforming comfort layer.

Back sleepers need a mattress firm enough to promote healthy spinal alignment but not so firm as to leave a gap under the lower back. If a mattress is too soft or too firm, it can strain the lumbar muscles.

Our back sleepers under 230 pounds enjoyed the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress’ balance of support and pressure relief. They reported that the bed cradled their hips and cushioned their lower backs, helping them maintain good posture. Testers over 230 pounds felt the bed was usable but not supportive enough. They felt that their hips sank too far into the mattress to maintain good alignment.

Stomach Sleepers

Our testers under 130 pounds found the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress extremely comfortable for stomach sleeping. Its memory foam comfort layer was firm enough to support the midsection and prevent unhealthy curvature of the spine.

Team members over 130 pounds felt that the mattress was adequate, but it lacked the support they needed to maintain good posture. While the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress is firmer than many memory foam models, it still allowed their hips to sink too far into the mattress. This can lead to back and neck pain.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7.5 / 10

During our testing, the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress’ memory foam comfort layer excelled at absorbing movement. Our testers rolled over, changed position, and got out of bed with minimal motion transfer from one side to the other. For sleepers who share their bed with a partner, this should result in fewer nighttime disturbances.

Thanks to the polyfoam support core, testers were able to move around without causing any noticeable sound. Light sleepers with a partner or pets will likely appreciate the lack of noise.

Pressure Relief

7.5 / 10

Like many all-foam models, the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress provides significant pressure relief. Its memory foam comfort layer molds to the body, redistributing weight to reduce pressure at the hips and shoulders. At the same time, the polyfoam core limits sinkage to promote spinal alignment.

With its medium firm (6) feel, the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress balances pressure relief and support for side and back sleepers under 230 pounds.

Temperature Control

5 / 10

While memory foam models have a reputation for retaining heat, the Lulu Original Mattress sleeps relatively cool. The gel-infused memory foam comfort layer is designed to draw away heat. Additionally, the ION Miracle Yarn cover is engineered to absorb body heat and convert it into infrared rays, further moderating temperatures.

We found that the Lulu Original Mattress regulates temperature better than many other memory foam models. However, it may still be too warm for people over 230 pounds. These sleepers sink further into the mattress, limiting cooling air circulation around the body. Especially hot sleepers may also prefer a more breathable design.

Edge Support

6.5 / 10

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress offers less edge support than many models, particularly those with reinforced perimeters. Its foam layers compress significantly when you sit or sleep along the edge, which can make the mattress feel unstable.

During testing, we found the edge support adequate for people under 130 pounds. Those close to and over 230 pounds experienced notable sinkage when sitting on the edge. While this didn’t affect the overall comfort of the bed, it did limit the usable space and made it more difficult to get into and out of bed.

Ease of Movement

5 / 10

While the hug of memory foam is sometimes restrictive, the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress’ medium firm feel makes it somewhat easier to move on.

The foam takes a moment to regain its shape, but it doesn’t hug the body as much as plusher models with thicker comfort systems. The high-density polyfoam core limits sinkage that could otherwise cause sleepers to feel trapped in the bed. However, people over 230 pounds may sink excessively, making movement more difficult.

While our testers didn’t struggle to change positions, the mattress does lack the bounce of coils.

Off-Gassing

5.5 / 10

New memory foam mattresses often have a chemical smell due to the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The process of vacuum-sealing the mattress holds in chemical byproducts. While VOCs are generally considered harmless, some people find their odor unpleasant.

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress has less noticeable off-gassing than many other memory foam models. By regularly checking it with a VOC meter, we determined that smells will likely dissipate within 24 to 72 hours after unpacking if you leave the mattress in a well-ventilated space.

Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress Review Breakdown

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress is a medium firm (6) all-foam bed composed of a gel-infused memory foam comfort layer on top of a high-density polyfoam support core.

The two layers are wrapped in a cover made of ION Miracle Yarn, a patented technology derived from natural minerals, such as zinc, magnesium, silica, and titanium. The minerals are molecularly bonded to threads and woven into yarn.

Ceramic-coated fibers are engineered to recycle body heat into Far Infrared Rays (FIR) and direct them back to the sleeper’s body. They are intended to reduce muscle pain by increasing circulation. This technology is thought to improve sleep quality and muscle recovery.

ION Miracle Yarn Technology is also engineered to resist degradation and to work effectively through a mattress protector, sheets, and clothes.

Under the cover, a memory foam comfort layer provides even contouring and pressure relief. It’s infused with gel designed to disperse body heat and improve temperature regulation. Beneath the comfort layer, a high-density polyfoam support core adds stability and durability.

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress measures 10 inches high.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

Availability

Customers within the contiguous U.S. can order the mattress online from the Lulu website. It’s also available through third parties, including Wayfair, The Home Depot, and Macy’s.

Shipping

Orders from the Lulu website ship for free within the contiguous U.S. Delivery typically takes three to seven business days, but it may take longer during the holiday season or other high-volume periods.

The mattress is compressed, wrapped in plastic, vacuum-sealed, and shipped in a box via FedEx. Upon arrival at your home, move the box to your room of choice, carefully open it, slide the mattress out, and cut away the plastic without damaging the mattress. Once the plastic is removed, the mattress should immediately begin regaining its shape. Allow four to six hours for it to expand before use.

Additional Services

Lulu doesn’t offer additional services, such as White Glove delivery or removal of your old mattress.

Sleep Trial

Customers buying the Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress directly from the manufacturer receive a 101-night sleep trial. Because new mattresses typically require an adjustment period, purchases are eligible for a return after a 28-day break-in period. In the case of a return, Lulu refunds the full purchase price and picks up the mattress for free.

Mattresses purchased from a third-party retailer are subject to that retailer’s return policy.

Warranty

The Lulu Original Memory Foam Mattress comes with a 10-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Defects include excessive deterioration causing a visible indentation over 1 inch and physical flaws leading to splits and cracks in the foam.

The warranty doesn’t cover abuse or softening due to normal use. You may want to consider using a waterproof mattress protector since stains, cuts, or burns void the warranty. If the mattress is defective, Lulu will repair or replace it and cover return shipping costs.
