Leesa is one the leading companies that has helped to popularize the online mattress industry. While Leesa started out with just one mattress model, the company has since expanded. One of the brand’s more recent additions is the Leesa Legend, a luxury hybrid mattress.
The Leesa Legend stands out from many competing hybrids because of its innovative, multi-material comfort system with zoned support. This mattress offers significant pressure relief and motion isolation without sacrificing bounce, temperature regulation, or edge support. With a medium firm (6) feel, it is a solid fit for people in most sleeping positions, particularly those weighing at least 130 pounds.
We’ll take a closer look at the different layers of the Leesa Legend and see how it performed in our test lab so you can decide if it’s the best mattress for your household.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Leesa Legend Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.
Jackson Lindeke
Executive Product Director
Side sleeper
180 lbs.
Showers before bed
The Leesa Legend is a true medium firm with cushy foam layers and a robust support system. One thing I really appreciate is the zoned coil support – strong pushback for my midsection without too much firmness beneath my head.

Side sleeper
140 lbs.
Too many animals in the bed
I prefer my mattresses a bit softer than the Legend, but I never felt like it was too firm – just not quite soft enough for my liking. That said, as a hot sleeper, I like how cool the surface feels.
Brad Nehring
Senior Product Analyst
Side sleeper
215 lbs.
Sleeps with a weighted blanket
This mattress checks all of my boxes. I’m a bigger guy, so I need that extra support around my midsection and the Legend delivers. I’m also a hot sleeper and didn’t feel any heat from the foam layers.

How you prefer to sleep and your body weight are two of the considerations that you can use to determine whether any mattress, including the Leesa Legend, is likely to be a good fit for you.
Side Sleepers
With a balance of contouring and support, the Leesa Legend cradles the hips and shoulders without giving out. The zoned microcoil layer also supplies extra reinforcement, especially around the hips. The medium firm feel suits most side sleepers, though it may feel a little on the firm side for people under 130 pounds.
A bed that’s too firm will feel jarring to areas prone to pressure points like the shoulders and hips, but a bed that’s too soft lets these wider areas sink out of alignment with the rest of the body, leading to pressure buildup. Medium soft (4) to medium firm (6) beds with moderate conforming tend to give side sleepers the best overall support.
Back Sleepers
The Leesa Legend is a good bet for back sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more. The mattress offers sufficient contouring to protect the lumbar spine, but it’s not so soft as to induce an uncomfortable U-shape. The bed is a little too firm for back sleepers under 130 pounds, who should expect some pressure buildup in the lower back.
Back sleepers are most at risk of misalignment around the lower back. This area has a natural curve that requires cushioning, though if a mattress is too soft, the body is inclined to sink in the shape of a U. Since they don’t have the same sharp pressure points as side sleepers, back sleepers tend to do better with slightly firmer options, usually ranging from medium (5) to firm (7).
Stomach Sleepers
The Leesa Legend is best suited to stomach sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds. With its dual-coil layer, the mattress supplies adequate responsiveness and support, which support the body without a sinking, quicksand-like feeling.
Stomach sleepers need a firm mattress to keep the spine straight. Mattresses that are too soft lead to sinking around the abdomen, which is where most people carry their weight. For this reason, stomach sleepers usually do best on a medium firm (6) to firm (8) mattress.
Mattress Performance
Motion Isolation
7
/ 10
“The Legend’s motion isolation is above average for a hybrid. You and your partner may notice ripples in the surface when the other person moves, but the foam layers are thick enough to absorb most motion transfer.” – Jackson
The motion isolation on the Leesa Legend ranks as above-average, which is impressive given that it’s a fairly bouncy bed.
The motion isolation is mostly thanks to the memory foam layer, which absorbs movements before they can disturb a sleeping partner. The mixed layer of microcoils and polyfoam also works against excess motion transfer, and the pocketed coils in the support core flex individually to prevent vibrations from affecting other parts of the bed.
While the Leesa Legend still transfers more motion than an all-foam mattress, it’s plenty effective to prevent unwanted nighttime disturbances for most people who share a bed.
Pressure Relief
7.5
/ 10
“The Legend’s ability to alleviate pressure depends on how much you weigh and which position you use. However, most of our testers were satisfied with how cushy and supporting the mattress felt.” – Logan
Multiple features in the Leesa Legend help provide above-average pressure relief.
The memory foam layer provides conforming to cushion sensitive areas like the hips and shoulders. The zoned microcoils and polyfoam bolster support under the midsection, and the other polyfoam layers in the comfort system fight against excessive sinking. The pocketed coils move independently, helping tailor support to the sleeper’s body.
Each of these elements contributes to solid pressure relief for most types of sleepers on this mattress.
Temperature Control
9
/ 10
“I’m used to foam hybrids retaining at least a little heat, but the Legend sleeps remarkably cool. The aerated top layer and breathable cover complement each other nicely.”
Very few sleepers describe having issues with heat retention on the Leesa Legend. The foam layer that is closest to the body has an aerated construction to let air flow through. The memory foam may capture some heat, but that is counteracted by the microcoils and pocketed coils that encourage cooling ventilation.
The responsive build and medium firm feel keep sleepers on top of the mattress, eliminating another potential cause of overheating. Taken together, these design elements make the Leesa Legend a strong choice for people who tend to sleep hot.
Edge Support
9
/ 10
“I didn’t notice a lot of sinkage when I sat along the Legend’s edges, nor did I feel confined to the middle of the mattress. Credit here goes to the reinforced perimeter coils.” – Jackson
The Leesa Legend performs well at edge support. Even if the foam compresses slightly under pressure, the dual coil layers help prop up the edges so most people can comfortably sit or sleep near the perimeter.
Ease of Movement
8
/ 10
“I had no trouble moving across the Legend thanks to the responsive design, but at the same time there isn’t too much motion transfer. Truly the best of both worlds.” – Logan
Moving around on top of the Leesa Legend is nearly effortless. With a medium firm feel and modest hug, the mattress keeps sleepers feeling “on” rather than “in” the mattress. At the same time, the responsiveness of the coils makes it smooth and painless to shift positions during the night.
Off-Gassing
7.5
/ 10
“You’ll notice some minor off-gassing smells from the foam, but these shouldn’t be a dealbreaker – just air out the mattress for a night or two before sleeping on it for the first time.” – Brad
Like most mattresses that contain polyfoam, the Leesa Legend may emit a light scent when the packaging is first opened. This is due to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) generated during manufacturing, but those VOCs are generally not considered to be harmful.
Since the mattress has two layers of coils, there is plenty of space for any odors to air out. In a well-ventilated bedroom, any smell should dissipate quickly, typically within the span of a few hours to a few days.
The Leesa Legend is a 12-inch hybrid mattress with several innovative design elements that distinguish it from many other hybrids on the market.
The cover of the Leesa Legend is made with a blend of polyester, organic cotton, Merino wool, rayon, Lycra spandex, and plastic from recycled water bottles. The cover is stretchy, breathable, and soft.
Below the cover is a 1-inch layer of polyfoam that molds itself slightly to fit the body and features an aerated structure to facilitate airflow. The second layer is 1 inch of memory foam that relieves pressure points and absorbs movements to reduce disruptions when sleeping with a partner.
The third layer of the comfort system is 1.5 inches and built with a combination of microcoils and polyfoam. In the center of the bed, this unique layer has softer polyfoam to cushion the hips and lumbar spine, but under the head and feet are bouncier microcoils. This combination helps maintain edge support and responsiveness while reinforcing the midsection to enhance spinal alignment. Under this layer is another inch of transitional polyfoam.
The support core is made up of two components. The main element of the support core is a 6-inch layer of individually wrapped metal coils. Since each coil moves independently of its neighbors, this type of coil creates a more tailored feel with less motion transfer. The coils are reinforced around the perimeter.
A final inch of high-density base polyfoam helps maintain stability and cuts down on possible noise from the movement of the coils.
Overall, the Leesa Legend has a medium firm feel that rates around a 6 on our 10-point firmness scale.
This mattress is available in all six standard mattress sizes. At 12 inches thick, the Legend is on the taller side but still shouldn’t require a deep-pocket fitted sheet.

Availability
The Leesa Legend can be purchased either online or in a physical store.
Through its website, Leesa sells this mattress to customers throughout the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) as well as to people in Canada. The Leesa Legend can also be purchased through third-party online retailers such as Amazon.
Leesa sells its mattresses at a range of brick-and-mortar retail stores, including West Elm and Pottery Barn. Since not all of those stores carry all Leesa products, it’s a good idea to use the Store Finder page on Leesa’s website and inquire directly about whether the Leesa Legend is in stock and on the showroom floor.
Shipping
The Leesa Legend ships free via UPS Ground to all 50 states, including Hawaii and Alaska. Orders in Canada are assessed an additional shipping fee.
Normally within about a week, the mattress arrives at your doorstep. To facilitate shipping, the mattress is rolled up, tightly compressed in plastic, and then sent in a box.
To install the mattress, you bring the box to the room of your choice and remove all the packaging. The mattress will quickly decompress and reach its full size. Lifting the box and setting up the mattress should be done with two to three people.
Purchases made in a brick-and-mortar store may come with different delivery policies, so check with your retailer about the timeline and cost of shipping.
Additional Services
Leesa offers White Glove delivery service for an extra fee. After the mattress is delivered by FedEx, you coordinate a date and time with a third-party service and they come set up the mattress in your room of choice. They can also remove your old mattress and bed base.
Sleep Trial
The Leesa Legend has a 100-night sleep trial with a required 30-night break-in period. After 30 nights, you can request a refund if you are not satisfied.
To receive a return, you can either provide proof of having donated the mattress to a local charity, or work with Leesa to arrange pickup. Mattresses must be in good condition to qualify for a refund.
There are no return shipping or restocking fees, except for people in Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada, who must pay $100 for return shipping. If you use White Glove delivery services, the return fee is non-refundable.
Warranty
The warranty for the Leesa Legend lasts for 10 years and covers defects in manufacturing and materials. If a defect arises, Leesa will either repair or replace the mattress. The only charges to the customer for warranty service are those related to shipping.
To qualify for the warranty, the mattress must always be used with a supportive foundation or bed base. Leesa extends warranty coverage to physical flaws in the foam or cover, as well as permanent indentations providing these are at least 1.5 inches deep. Additional terms apply.
