Founded in 2018, iSense makes luxury mattresses with customizable firmness levels. Their mattresses are built to suit couples by having a different firmness feel on each side of the bed.
The iSense Hybrid Premier Mattress includes a unique layer featuring inflatable air chambers encased in foam. With these chambers – which are normally found in traditional airbeds –, you can easily modify the firmness level of the mattress with the touch of a remote or using the iSense smartphone app. In addition, a built-in sensor provides nightly sleep-tracking data that you can use to enhance your sleep.
Our testing team wanted to examine this mattress up close, so we brought it into our Test Lab for an in-depth evaluation.
We’ll cover the findings from the Test Lab, including the Hybrid Premier’s strengths and drawbacks as well as its construction and pricing.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the iSense Hybrid Mattress Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.
Logan Foley
Editorial Director
Side sleeper
140 lbs.
Has too many dogs in the bed
I was skeptical of the iSense Hybrid Premier’s unconventional design, but it really worked well for me. As a side sleeper, I appreciated the ability to easily adjust the firmness to make sure my hips and shoulders had the right amount of cushioning.
Daniel Noyed
Senior Product Editor
Back sleeper
165 lbs.
Dunks head in ice water to wake up
Like Logan, I was pleasantly surprised by the Hybrid Premier. The foam layers felt comfortable and supportive for my lower back, and I could dial in the firmness so that I didn’t feel like I was sinking too deeply into the mattress.
Brad Nehring
Senior Product Analyst
Side sleeper
215 lbs.
Sleeps with a weighted blanket
The adjustability of the mattress is a big plus, but it has its limits. While I didn’t feel like I was stuck in the foam, pushing too deeply into the material could be an issue for heavier sleepers even if the mattress is set to its highest firmness level.

Side Sleepers
Thanks to its adjustable firmness, the iSense Hybrid Premier is a supportive option for side sleepers of almost any body weight. The top layer of polyfoam provides essential cushioning for the shoulders and hips, which is where side sleepers have the sharpest impact with their mattress.
At the same time, the ability to increase or decrease firmness keeps people in this sleeping position from sinking too far into the bed.
In our testing, side sleepers gave high ratings to the iSense Hybrid Premier. Some people over 230 pounds felt that the top layer of foam could be a little too soft, but overall, side sleepers on our team were very satisfied with this mattress.
Back Sleepers
The Hybrid Premier’s design is the basis for its solid performance among back sleepers, especially those under 230 pounds.
Back sleepers need a sturdy mattress that cushions the lower back without excessive sagging that can strain the lower back. We found that the responsive polyfoam layer delivered good lumbar support, and the air chambers let back sleepers maintain a sleep surface that was sufficiently firm.
Among back sleepers, the lowest scores came from those who weigh over 230 pounds. Some of these sleepers found that the top layer of foam makes the mattress feel too soft even when the air chambers are fully inflated.
Stomach Sleepers
We found that the iSense Hybrid Premier Mattress is well-suited to stomach sleepers under 130 pounds, but it can lack firmness for those with a higher body weight.
Of any sleeping position, stomach sleeping requires the firmest and most even mattress. Without enough firmness, the midsection can sink in, pulling the spine out of alignment.
In our tests, stomach sleepers under 130 pounds felt that the adjustable air chambers let them find the necessary firmness for both comfort and support. Other stomach sleepers, though, felt that they sank too far into the thick polyfoam comfort layer.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
7.5
/ 10
“Even though there are coils in the support core, the iSense Premier does a good job isolating motion. You can feel a tiny bit of vibration when there’s movement on the other side of the bed, but it wasn’t enough to disrupt my sleep.” – Logan
The Hybrid Premier does a good job of isolating motion, which is important for people who share a bed.
Our testing team found that the top foam layer absorbed most surface vibrations, so you barely notice when there’s movement on the other side of the mattress.
There’s a tiny bit more motion transfer when the mattress is set to higher firmness levels, but, based on our testing, it’s unlikely to interfere with a bed partner’s sleep. Only people who are very easily awakened are likely to have issues with the motion isolation of the Hybrid Premier.
Pressure Relief
7
/ 10
“The top layer of polyfoam has a balanced feel that enhances pressure relief on the Hybrid Premier. Real-time firmness adjustments let you complement the cushioning with a comfortable amount of firmness.” – Danny
We found that the multi-layered design of the iSense Hybrid Premier offered high-level pressure relief. The adaptive polyfoam accommodates sharp pressure points. That pressure relief is enhanced by the customizable firmness that can be set to different levels on each side of the bed.
In our tests, this pressure relief was especially popular among side sleepers. In contrast, some stomach sleepers said that they felt the mattress was too soft to facilitate proper spinal alignment.
Temperature Control
7.5
/ 10
“I was able to sleep comfortably on the Premier Hybrid without waking up in a sweat. There might be some heat that builds up, but it seems to dissipate quickly thanks to the airflow through the coils and air chambers.” – Brad
Our tests determined that the Premier Hybrid has enough temperature control to keep most people from sleeping hot.
The mattress has multiple cooling features designed to resist heat retention. The foam’s open-cell structure and gel treatment are engineered to dissipate heat. The pocketed coils also promote airflow.
Some hot sleepers may feel that the mattress is a touch too warm, but most people will find that it stays at a comfortable temperature.
Edge Support
7.5
/ 10
“The dense foam encasement gives the mattress a dependable edge. It feels a bit softer when you adjust to one of the lower firmness settings, but I never felt unstable or unsupported.” – Logan
The iSense Hybrid Premier has an edge that feels sturdy enough for you to use the entire surface of the mattress.
While the polyfoam layer will compress when you’re sitting or sleeping close to the edge, the perimeter doesn’t feel like it’s going to give out beneath you.
Ease of Movement
7
/ 10
“This isn’t the easiest mattress to move on, but I didn’t feel stuck in quicksand. Even when you have the mattress set to maximum firmness, the polyfoam layer conforms to the body in a way that poses a small barrier movement.” – Danny
Sleepers on our testing team found that ease of movement is about average on the iSense Hybrid Premier. The mattress doesn’t facilitate movement, but it doesn’t significantly impede it, either.
While there is some sinkage into the polyfoam, most sleepers don’t feel trapped in the foam. Sleepers over 230 pounds push deeper into the foam and may experience the greatest problems with ease of movement.
Off-Gassing
6.5
/ 10
“There’s some noticeable smell when you first unbox the iSense Hybrid Premier. For me, the odor lingered for several days, but it wasn’t too much of a nuisance.” – Brad
We detected a relatively strong smell from the Hybrid Premier, which is what you expect from mattresses with multiple foam layers. The smell happens when tiny compounds created during the manufacturing process are released from the sealed plastic packaging.
There’s no major health risk associated with this off-gassing, and we found that the smell should go away within a few days. Turning on a ceiling fan or opening a window can help the smell dissipate more quickly.
The iSense Hybrid Premier is an adjustable mattress that allows you and a bed partner to set different firmness levels on each side. Using a remote or app, you can choose from 20 distinct firmness settings that correspond to a range of soft (3) to firm (7) on our firmness scale of 1-10.
The mattress is 13.5 inches tall and has a stretchy cover made from a polyester-spandex blend. The top interior layer is made of 2.25 inches of polyfoam that has a gel treatment designed to reduce heat buildup. This foam cradles the body to reduce pressure buildup.
The next layer is 5.5 inches of foam that encases 14 air chambers. When you adjust the firmness level, a pump adds or removes air. Having separate chambers on each side allows couples to select different firmness options.
The support core of the iSense Hybrid Premier is made of pocketed innerspring coils. The pocketed design lets coils move independently of each other, reducing motion transfer. The coils are encased around the perimeter in high-density polyfoam that strengthens edge support. A 1.5-inch layer of polyfoam serves as the shock-absorbing base of the mattress.
Another feature of the iSense Hybrid Premier is a built-in sensor that collects data as you sleep, allowing the app to calculate a nightly sleep score.

Availability
The iSense Hybrid Premier is available to people in all 50 U.S. states. It can only be purchased directly from the iSense website. It is not available in any brick-and-mortar stores.
Shipping
The iSense Hybrid Premier ships for free to addresses in the contiguous United States. Delivery is available to Alaska and Hawaii for an additional charge.
For standard shipping, the mattress is compressed and wrapped in plastic so that it can be delivered in a box to your front door. It usually takes two to four weeks for the mattress to arrive after you place an order.
When the box arrives, you only have to bring it to your bedroom and remove the packaging so that the mattress can decompress and return to its full size.
The iSense Hybrid Premier is heavy, so the company recommends having two people available to lift the box and position the mattress.
Additional Services
A White Glove delivery option is available at checkout for an extra charge. It includes in-home setup of the Hybrid Premier but does not include haul-away of an old mattress.
Sleep Trial
iSense offers a 180-night sleep trial for the Hybrid Premier. You must keep the mattress for at least 45 days to qualify for a full refund with your return. If you make a return within the first 45 days, there is a 25% restocking fee.
In the event of a return, the company provides you with a return shipping label for the electrical components and arranges for pickup of the mattress itself.
Warranty
The Hybrid Premier has a 10-year limited warranty. If there is a defect in materials or manufacturing, iSense will repair or replace the mattress at no charge.
For the air pump and electronic controls, there is no charge for warranty service during the first three years. After that, you are responsible for up to 65% of the cost of repair or replacement of these parts depending on how long you’ve had the mattress.
