Launched in 2024, the Glacier Summit Hybrid Mattress is the latest addition to Glacier Sleep’s lineup, backed by Bedding Industries of America (BIA) — a company with over 150 years of mattress-making expertise. Designed to deliver a balance of comfort, support, and durability, this hybrid model aims to meet the needs of a wide range of sleepers.

Standing 13 inches tall, the Glacier Summit Hybrid falls at a medium firm (6) on our 10-point firmness scale, making it a versatile option for different sleep positions. Its construction includes robust pocketed coils for stability and three layers of foam, two of which are pressure-relieving memory foam to enhance contouring and comfort.

We evaluated the Summit Hybrid in our Test Lab, rating its performance in all of the categories that are most important to sleeper satisfaction. We go over the detailed results of our testing as well as other key information, including the construction, sizing, and pricing.

Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Glacier Summit Hybrid, we had three people on our testing team take the bed home with them and test it for one week. Here are their initial observations.

“This mattress struck the perfect balance between cushioning and support. The memory foam layers contoured nicely to my body, while the coils kept me from sinking in too much — great for someone who needs extra lumbar support.”

Side Sleepers

The Glacier Summit Hybrid got excellent reviews from the side sleepers on our testing team, and the highest marks came from side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. The gel-infused memory foam layer allows the mattress to hug the hips and shoulders, which are high-impact zones when sleeping on your side. By properly cushioning those areas, the mattress enables side sleepers to more easily maintain a neutral spine while they sleep.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers on our testing team — particularly those under 230 pounds — also got solid support from the Glacier Summit Hybrid. For this sleeping position, a mattress needs to have enough firmness so that the midsection doesn’t sink in too deeply. However, it also needs cushioning for the spine’s natural curvature in the lower back. We found that the Glacier Summit Hybrid effectively met these needs for back sleepers because of its blend of steady support and lumbar cushioning.

Stomach Sleepers

The best ratings from stomach sleepers came from those who weigh under 130 pounds. Stomach sleepers get the best support from a mattress that stays firm and flat, keeping the abdomen supported and the spine aligned. Stomach sleepers under 230 pounds felt that the Summit Hybrid did enough to hold their spine in an even posture. However, stomach sleepers over 230 pounds were more inclined to say that the mattress felt too soft to offer sufficient support for their midsection.

Performance Ratings

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8 / 10

“I was really impressed with how well the Glacier Summit Hybrid isolated motion. The memory foam layers did a great job absorbing movement, so even when my partner shifted positions, I barely felt it.” – Brad

Powered by its memory foam layers, the mattress contours to the body, which helps absorb and isolate vibrations from movement. We found that this made it easier to keep sleeping soundly even when a bed partner moved around on their side of the bed. The high marks in this category help make the Glacier Summit Hybrid a good choice for couples.

Pressure Relief

9 / 10

“The memory foam layers contoured really well to my hips and shoulders, while the lumbar pad gave my lower back just the right amount of cushioning. At the same time, the pocketed coils kept me from sinking too much, helping me maintain good spinal alignment throughout the night.” – Jeremy

With its combination of foam layers, this mattress did a better job promoting spinal alignment than the majority of hybrid models. The memory foam lumbar pad properly cushioned the lower back, and the thicker memory foam layer cradled the hips and shoulders to minimize pressure buildup. At the same time, the pocketed coils provided a solid base of support that protected against excess sinkage.

Temperature Control

7.5 / 10

“I found the Glacier Summit Hybrid did a solid job of keeping me cool throughout the night. While extra-hot sleepers might notice some warmth, I think most people will find it more than sufficient for a comfortable sleep.” – Colin

The mattress has multiple cooling features, including gel-infused and aerated foams and a cooling fabric in the mattress cover. These help counteract the natural tendency of memory foam to retain heat. While people who naturally sleep hot may notice some light heat buildup, most sleepers shouldn’t have an issue.

Edge Support

8.5 / 10

“I was really impressed with the edge support on the Glacier Summit Hybrid, especially for a mattress with this much contouring. The reinforced perimeter and pocketed coils kept the edges feeling stable, so I never felt like I was going to slide off when sitting or lying near the edge.” – Jeremy

The Glacier Summit Hybrid Mattress offers much stronger edge support than most other mattresses with memory foam layers. For a mattress with its level of contouring and pressure relief, it exceeded our expectations for edge support. The dependable edge of this mattress is a result of the pocketed coils and their reinforced perimeter. We found this enabled us to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed without any sense of instability or excess sinkage.

Ease of Movement

7 / 10

“This mattress has a more cushioned feel than a typical hybrid, which made switching positions a little slow. The pocketed coils add some responsiveness, but the memory foam layers absorb a lot of that bounce, creating a bit of resistance when changing positions.” – Mary

Although the pocketed coils have a springy feel, most of that is absorbed by the foam layers. As the memory foam conforms to your body, it creates some resistance when you want to adjust your body’s position.

While this is unlikely to be a problem for most people, it may bother some combination sleepers and others who regularly shift around in bed.

Off-Gassing

7.5 / 10

“There was a slight ‘new mattress smell,’ but it wasn’t overwhelming, and it faded within a couple of days. I left a window open and used a fan to speed up the process, and after that, it wasn’t noticeable at all.” – Jeremy

Like almost any mattress that is delivered in a box, there’s a light odor when you first set up the Glacier Summit Hybrid. The source of this “new mattress smell” is the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the manufacturing process. These VOCs are harmless but do emit a temporary and often unpleasant odor.

Glacier Summit Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Glacier Summit Hybrid is 13 inches tall and has a firmness level of medium firm (6). As a hybrid mattress, it’s built to try to capture the benefits of multiple different types of materials. The cover of the mattress is quilted for a more inviting feel and includes cooling fibers that are engineered to help dissipate heat before it can affect your comfort.

Inside the mattress, the top layer is a memory foam lumbar pad. It sits beneath the lower back for extra cushioning around this common hot spot for aches and pains. The lumbar pad is infused with graphite to reduce heat retention.

The next layer is made with an adaptive polyfoam that offers light cushioning. Beneath that is a layer of gel-infused memory foam that relieves pressure and isolates motion by closely contouring to the weight of the body. As with the lumbar pad, the gel infusion is designed to prevent heat from building up in the memory foam layer. An aerated design, which includes small holes to facilitate airflow, is also intended to reduce overheating.

The support core is made of an 8-inch layer of metal coils. The design of these pocketed coils gives each one a more independent range of motion, so they can compress without affecting the surrounding coils. This enhances targeted support for the body while also reducing motion transfer.

The coils give the mattress a light amount of bounciness, although much of that is blunted by the foam layers. The coils are reinforced around the perimeter, which gives the mattress a notable amount of edge support. Air can move through the coils, providing ventilation that serves as another means of enhancing temperature regulation.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

Availability

The Glacier Summit Hybrid is only sold on the Glacier Sleep website.

Shipping

Glacier offers free ground shipping within the contiguous 48 U.S. states. Shipping isn’t available to Hawaii, Alaska, or other addresses outside of the 48 states.

Each mattress is built to order and then has to pass a strict quality check. Once that’s complete, the mattress ships within 72 hours and takes three to five business days to be delivered to your home. The mattress comes in a box after being compressed and sealed in plastic. To set up the mattress, you need to first bring the box to your bedroom, which usually requires two people.

After carefully removing all the packaging, the mattress will quickly decompress, but the company recommends waiting 24 hours so that it can reach its full size before you sleep on it.

Additional Services

Glacier Sleep doesn’t offer White Glove delivery. Old mattress removal services are only available in the state of California.

Sleep Trial

The Glacier Summit Hybrid comes with a 365-night sleep trial. The company requests that you use the mattress for a 30-night adjustment period before requesting a return.

If you find that the mattress doesn’t work for you, you can return it during the sleep trial. You will be given a full refund as long as the mattress isn’t damaged or stained. Glacier Sleep will help coordinate the logistics of the return at no cost to you.

Warranty

The Glacier Summit Hybrid comes with a lifetime limited warranty that covers defects in materials or manufacturing. In the first 10 years, the company will replace a defective mattress at no cost. Starting in year 11, the warranty provides a 50% discount on the cost of a new mattress, and the size of the discount decreases each year until reaching a minimum of 10% off.

The warranty doesn’t cover damage from accidents, misuse, or normal wear and tear.
