Our team found that the Avocado Organic Luxury Mattress keeps most vibrations contained so that they don’t bother a bed partner.

Because latex and coils are both bouncy, you’d expect there to be more motion transfer on a mattress with this design. But the added padding from cotton, wool, and silk above the latex helps moderate the bounciness.

Among the three models, the ultra plush actually has the most motion transfer because, unlike the medium and plush versions, it features springy Talalay latex in its top layer.

Each model of the Organic Luxury Mattress provides above-average pressure relief. The mix of materials allows the mattress to gently cushion pressure points, but there’s no deep contouring like you’d find from memory foam.

However, some sleepers will find the mattress to be too soft to offer adequate support. Based on our testing, it’s usually people under 230 pounds and those who love the feel of a softer mattress who get the best pressure relief and overall comfort from this mattress.

“Given the materials, I expected there to be zero heat retention, and that wasn’t exactly the case. The surface of the mattress can collect heat, but it shouldn’t be a problem unless you consistently sleep hot.” – Mary

While the mattress offers solid temperature regulation, it’s actually a bit underwhelming for a latex hybrid. The softness and sink reduce airflow around the skin, which led our testers to experience heat buildup on the surface of the mattress over the course of the night.

Among the models of the Avocado Organic Luxury Mattress, temperature control is best on the ultra plush. This may come as a surprise given its softer feel, but this is the only model that has latex at the very top, and latex is extremely effective at minimizing heat retention.

“For as soft as the mattress is, there’s a surprising amount of edge support. The responsiveness of the latex and thick coils generate a base amount of edge support that keeps you from rolling off the mattress.” – Jackson

The robust layer of innerspring coils and springy latex give the Avocado Organic Luxury Mattress more dependable edge support than you’d find in other mattresses with a similar firmness level.

As you would expect, the softer models have more compression near the edge of the mattress. However, our testers didn’t feel unstable and were able to sit or sleep near the perimeter without any real risk of accidentally falling off the bed.

“Ease of movement is one area where the Organic Luxury underperforms compared to other latex hybrids. Except on the box-top model, there’s so much cushioning material between your body and the first latex layer. You’ll notice a slight bounce but will probably still have a hard time moving on this mattress.” – Brad

The Avocado Organic Luxury Mattress earns roughly average marks for ease of movement. Although there’s bounciness from the coils and latex, the effect is muted by the fabric layers at the top of the mattress.

The exception is the ultra plush model since it has 3 inches of Talalay latex in its box-top design. We found that it was much easier to roll over or change sleeping positions on the ultra plush model compared to the other two versions of this mattress.

“There’s a minor scent from the latex, but overall, there’s way less off-gassing with this mattress since it doesn’t have any foam materials.” – Mary

In our test lab, we found that there was only faint off-gassing from this mattress. Foam is the primary culprit behind mattress off-gassing, and there’s no foam in the Avocado Organic Luxury Mattress.

High-quality organic materials are produced with few chemicals, reducing the risk of off-gassing after unpacking this mattress. Though latex can have a bit of a smell, it doesn’t usually last more than 12 to 24 hours, especially if you have some ventilation in your bedroom.
