The Casper Nova Hybrid is the softest mattress of the group, rating 5 out of 10. As a result, it rates highest with sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds. Heavier weight individuals tend to find that the Casper Nova Hybrid doesn’t offer the support they require.

All of the beds covered in this review contain memory foam and relieve pressure well. Sleepers wanting the greatest amount of “hug” should opt for the softer Casper Nova Hybrid or the all-foam Casper Original.

For many shoppers, price will impact which mattress works for them. The Casper Original is the least expensive and therefore the best for people on a budget. However, the DreamCloud and DreamCloud Premier both come with a lifetime warranty, and this could save you money in the long run.

Construction and Materials Comparison

The majority of the beds covered in this review are hybrids, but the Casper Original comes in an all-foam model. These two construction types result in different feels and often sell for different prices.

All-foam mattresses contain comfort layers and a support core made of foam, as their name implies. The support core is generally high-density polyfoam, while the comfort layers often contain memory foam. All-foam beds can have anywhere from two to several layers.

DreamCloud

DreamCloud offers two mattresses. The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid, also known as the DreamCloud, is made with the following materials:

Due to its medium firm feel, the DreamCloud performs well with sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds, as well as those in the range of 130 to 230 pounds. The memory foam layers provide some body-conforming to support the spine and alleviate pressure, but the coil system delivers sturdy support and people in these weight groups shouldn’t sink too much. This offers a plusher surface feel and extra cushioning for sleepers who prefer more of a “hug” from their mattress.

Like the DreamCloud, the DreamCloud Premier also excels at temperature neutrality thanks to steady airflow through its coil system. The breathable cashmere cover also helps the mattress keep cool. Edge support is another strength of the DreamCloud Premier. Owners shouldn’t sink too much when getting in and out of bed, and most people will feel secure sleeping along the edges.

Casper

Casper sells three mattress models, and one of those comes with two construction options. This section contains details about the materials and construction in each of these four beds.

The Casper Original is made with:

• 1.5″ Airscape open-cell polyfoam comfort layer
• 2″ 3-zone memory foam comfort layer
• 7″ polyfoam support core

The Casper Original is an all-foam mattress that measures 11 inches in thickness. It is the brand’s flagship mattress and often referred to simply as “The Casper.” This mattress rates medium, or 5 out of 10, in terms of firmness.

The Casper Original is one of the brand’s least expensive mattresses, though it comes with some advanced features. A zoned memory foam comfort layer provides additional support to the areas of the body that need it most. As a result, sleepers experience spinal alignment and pressure relief.

The Casper Original Hybrid is made with:

• 1.5″ Airscape open-cell polyfoam comfort layer
• 2″ 3-zone memory foam comfort layer
• 7″ pocketed coils support core

The Casper Original Hybrid, also called the Casper Hybrid, is constructed exactly like the Casper Original except for its support core. It also measures 11 inches thick and rates medium in terms of firmness. Instead of high-density polyfoam, the Hybrid contains pocketed coils.

The two Casper Original beds feel similar, but swapping polyfoam for pocketed coils does change the bed. The Casper Original Hybrid sleeps cooler due to airflow through the coil layer. Also, the firm coils increase the bed’s edge support, which can increase the bed’s usable surface area.

The Casper Nova Hybrid is made with:

• 1″ Airscape open-cell polyfoam comfort layer
• 1.5″ 3-zone Airscape open-cell polyfoam comfort layer
• 2″ 7-zone transitional memory foam
• 7″ pocketed coils support core

The Casper Nova Hybrid shares similarities with the Casper Original Hybrid. The 7-inch pocketed coil support core and uppermost comfort layer are the same in both beds.

The Casper Nova Hybrid contains an additional comfort layer, however. This layer brings the bed’s firmness level down to medium, or 5 out of 10. As a result, the Nova Hybrid performs better with lighter weight individuals, but is too soft for people over 230 pounds.

Also, the zoned memory foam transitional layers in the two mattresses differ. The Nova Hybrid’s transitional layer has seven zones, compared to three zones in the Casper Original’s transitional layer. These additional zones, along with higher quality materials, make the Nova Hybrid rate higher among sleepers.

The Casper Wave Hybrid is made with:

• 1″ Airscape open-cell polyfoam comfort layer
• 1.5″ Airscape open-cell latex comfort layer
• 1.5″ Airscape 3-zone memory foam
• 1.5″ zoned polyfoam with targeted gel pods

The Casper Wave Hybrid is the most luxurious mattress offered by Casper. As a result, it comes with a much higher price tag. Like the Casper Original Hybrid and Casper Nova Hybrid, this bed has a 7-inch pocketed coil support core and perforated AirScape comfort layers.

Unlike the other Casper hybrids, the Wave features two, not one, zoned layers to relieve pressure. Also, ta layer of AirScape latex. These additions help the Wave remain temperature neutral, so sleepers stay cool overnight.

There are many factors you should take into consideration before buying a mattress. Don’t make the mistake of only considering price and firmness level. A mattress can be affordable and the right firmness for you but still not meet your needs.

• Durability: Durability refers to how long a mattress lasts and how well it performs over time. The quality of construction and the types of materials used generally determine a mattress’s durability. An average mattress lasts about 6 years, but some can last for decades. • Motion Isolation: When a mattress isolates motion well, movement doesn’t travel across the surface of the mattress in response to weight or motion. Motion isolation is most important to people who share a bed with a partner, child, or animal. When a mattress doesn’t isolate motion well, sleepers might be disturbed by the movements of whomever they share a bed with. Of all mattress materials, high-quality memory foam tends to isolate motion the best.

When mattress shopping, you can expect to find beds priced as low as $500 as well as those costing over $3,000. You might wonder, why do the costs vary so much?

Generally, the price of a mattress is most heavily influenced by its materials and construction. All-foam beds tend to be the most affordable. DreamCloud offers two mattresses, the DreamCloud and DreamCloud Premier. The latter costs more but both models are reasonably priced compared to the average hybrid. Of the Casper beds, the Casper Original Hybrid is constructed and priced most similarly to the DreamCloud. The Casper Hybrid does cost a little less than the DreamCloud, however.

Most people deciding between these two mattresses should allow firmness level to guide their choice, rather than cost. The Casper Hybrid doesn’t perform well with people who weigh more than 230 pounds, but does excel at supporting individuals weighing under 230 pounds. The DreamCloud and DreamCloud Premier are both medium firm, so they are better suited to people who weigh more than 230 pounds.

Among the Casper mattresses, the Casper Original is the least expensive because it’s an all-foam bed. Budget shoppers who enjoy a conforming foam mattress are generally satisfied with this one.

The Casper Nova Hybrid and Casper Wave Hybrid are both luxury hybrid options that contain more sophisticated zoned technology. The Wave Hybrid costs significantly more due to its construction. Shoppers should keep in mind that these beds have different firmness levels, however. The Nova Hybrid is preferred for those who want a softer bed.

Trials, Warranty, and Delivery

DreamCloud’s Policies

Shipping

DreamCloud ships their mattress for free within the contiguous U.S. They charge a $150 fee for shipping to Alaska or Hawaii. They do not ship internationally at this time.

For $149, customers may purchase White Glove delivery. With White Glove delivery, DreamCloud will have someone deliver your mattress and set it up for you. For an additional $20, they will also remove your old mattress. These services are non-refundable.

Trial

DreamCloud offers a 365-night trial period that begins 30 days after the mattress is delivered. Customers may not return the mattress within the first 30 days because that’s the required break-in period.

Returns

Returns of open DreamCloud mattresses may be initiated 30 days after delivery and within the 365-night trial period. Unopened mattresses may be sent back immediately.

Returns are free, except for in areas that require a recycling fee. Customers who purchased white glove delivery and old mattress removal cannot have those services refunded, however.

DreamCloud does not sell returned opened mattresses. They will make arrangements for your mattress based on where you live. Some mattresses are returned to the company, while others are donated or disposed of locally.

Customers may initiate a return via phone call or email. DreamCloud will not accept returns of mattresses that are dirty or damaged. Any mattress that wasn’t opened within 90 days of delivery is considered damaged and isn’t eligible for a return.

Warranties

DreamCloud offers a limited lifetime warranty. The warranty only applies to the person who originally purchased the mattress. If the mattress wasn’t used on an appropriate base, the warranty may be void. If the mattress was burned, dirtied, or damaged, the warranty may be void.

Within the first 10 years, DreamCloud will replace a defective mattress with a brand new one. After 10 years, DreamCloud will repair and recover the mattress as necessary if it is deemed defective. Body impressions that measure less than 1.5 inches in depth are not considered defects.

Casper’s Policies

Shipping

Casper ships their mattresses for free to the contiguous U.S. and most of Canada. They charge a fee to ship to Alaska, Hawaii, and Northern Canada (Yukon, Northwest, and Nunavut territories). Their standard shipping is done by UPS.

For a fee, Casper will have your mattress delivered and set up for you. Casper doesn’t state what this fee is on their site. With delivery and set-up, they will remove one mattress for each delivered, and one box spring for each box spring delivered.They will not remove bed frames.

Trial

Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial that begins the day your mattress is delivered. Within 100 nights, you may return the mattress for free.

Returns

Casper mattress returns are free. Customers may initiate a return through the Casper website or by calling the company.

Casper will send a courier to pick up the returned mattress. They try to recycle them wherever possible.

Warranties

Casper offers a 10-year limited warranty on their mattresses. The warranty is only valid for the original mattress purchaser. The warranty is only valid to people living in the U.S. and Canada. The warranty can be void if the mattress is used on anything other than a solid bed base.

The Casper warranty covers any defects in the mattress, such as any splits, cracks, or broken zippers. The warranty doesn’t cover body impressions that measure less than 1 inch deep. The warranty also doesn’t cover anything considered abuse, burns, liquid damage, stains, and more.
