Our Testing Team’s Take
Our testing team has tried almost 2,000 mattresses – including Canadian brands like Douglas and Endy. In our Seattle-based sleep lab, we wave to our Canadian neighbors while testing beds for important characteristics like ease of movement, pressure relief, and edge support.
We also try beds at home so that we can get a feel for how they perform on a longer-term basis. Our testing experts have different sleeping positions and body weights, which helps us predict which sleepers will most like a model. We compile our sleep lab data and testers’ scores to find the best mattresses (and best Canadian mattresses) on the market.
Our Verdict
Canadian shoppers looking for a good deal on a quality, all-foam mattress will find either the Douglas Original or Endy Mattress a good fit. Both are available in medium firm (6) designs, while the Endy is also sold as medium soft (4) and firm (7). They’re also budget-friendly and manufactured and shipped from Canada, so there aren’t any extra duties or fees.
Though these beds have similar characteristics, we found enough distinctions that you should be able to pick between them fairly easily. Before choosing a mattress, think about what kind of sleep surface you like best, the support level you need for your weight, and which factors are non-negotiable.

“I think for the price, the Douglas Original is a decent all-around bed that checks a lot of boxes. I got solid pressure relief under my hips but the surface isn’t too soft, so my spine stayed even and in line even while my shoulders and hips got some cushioning. ”
The Endy Mattress has a less compressive, more resilient feel than the Douglas Original. If you like sleeping “on” your mattress, you’ll likely prefer the Endy over the Douglas. If you enjoy the feel of a full-body hug, go for the Douglas. Its memory foam comfort system is highly adaptive and cushioning. Keep in mind that our testers thought these beds offered optimal support for back and side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. People over 230 pounds and stomach sleepers will probably find these models too soft.

“The Endy Mattress surprised me. It has less contouring and more bounce than you usually find in an all-foam mattress. At first, I wasn’t sure if it would have enough cushioning for my hips and shoulders, but I found that it was comfortable and helped keep my spine aligned.”

Douglas Original Mattress Breakdown
The Douglas Original Mattress has a streamlined construction with three layers. The top layer is patented ecoLight gel-infused memory foam that’s manufactured using less carbon than other foams. The gel infusion is included to combat heat retention. Underneath the ecoLight foam, there’s another proprietary foam called Elastex. It’s meant to mimic latex by giving the bed a bouncy feel that prevents you from sinking.
The final layer is a 6-inch polyfoam support core that isolates motion while giving the layers above structure and stability. The washable cover is made from Douglas’ CoolSense fabric, which includes fibers engineered to feel cool to the touch. Altogether, the layers add up to a 10-inch mattress with a medium firm feel that’s a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
Endy Mattress Breakdown
The Endy Mattress is also 10 inches tall. Firmness options include medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7). Its comfort layer is open-cell polyfoam that’s infused with gel. The cell structure allows more air to flow through the foam, while the infusion aims to keep the mattress cool to the touch. The transitional layer is also polyfoam. It creates a buffer between the other layers to prevent you from sinking while minimizing motion transfer.
The high-density polyfoam support core anchors the bed while offering stability and spinal support. Endy formulates its foams to work with temperature fluctuations during Canadian seasons – so it shouldn’t get firmer or softer with the weather. The cover is a polyester and spandex blend that’s stretchy and machine-washable.
Mattress Sizing and Weight
At 10 inches tall, both the Douglas Original Mattress and Endy Mattress fit within standard fitted sheets. The Endy outweighs the Douglas by less than 10 pounds, but they’re both fairly light because of their all-foam construction. You can buy either bed in twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, or California king dimensions. Douglas also makes its Original in a split king.

Performance Ratings
Despite their similar constructions and materials, we found some significant performance differences between the Douglas Original and Endy Mattress. Though they’re both foam, moving around on the Endy Mattress was easier because its foam is less compressive. This more responsive feel also makes it a better option for a cooling mattress.
The Douglas Original conforms closely to the body, which some people love – but it can leave hot sleepers wishing for a little more space between their body and the bed’s surface. They had similar levels of edge support, with the Endy offering slightly more structure at the perimeter. All-foam beds usually isolate motion well and relieve pressure points effectively, and these two beds were no exception. Either would be a good choice if those are important factors for you.
The Endy Mattress had wider appeal than the Douglas for our sleep testers, but we found both mattresses only had the ideal support level for one weight group each. Back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds liked the Endy’s blend of gentle contouring and support, while side sleepers in the same weight range preferred the Douglas Original’s adaptive memory foam surface. Neither bed had enough structure for stomach sleepers or testers over 230 pounds.
Mattress Pricing
Douglas’ policies have an edge over Endy’s. Both companies offer free shipping to Canadian provinces, but Douglas’ sleep trial and warranty is longer than Endy’s. Each of these beds comes shipped to your door as a mattress-in-a-box.

What Customers Are Saying
Douglas Original Owners appreciate how well their mattress isolates motion and couples say they don’t feel their partner’s movements at night. Eco-friendly shoppers think Douglas backs up its green marketing and they like the company’s commitment to sustainability. Hot sleepers say their bed sleeps cooler than other foam mattresses they’ve tried. Some reviews indicate that the mattress has a strong off-gassing odor and others say the bed feels firmer than they expected.
People who sleep on the Endy mattress give it high praise for balance, saying it strikes a middle ground between firm and soft that works well for back and side sleeping. Like the Douglas, couples also like that the Endy doesn’t allow much motion to transfer across the mattress’ surface. Critical reviews say their bed isn’t very strong at the edges and that the foam loses its shape after extended use.
