Our Testing Team’s Take
At Sleep Foundation, our mission is to help you understand the nuts and bolts of each mattress so you can find the best mattress for you. Over the past decade, our testing team has evaluated nearly 2,000 mattresses in our Seattle Test Lab. Through this hands-on testing, we’ve developed a unique product research methodology that forms the backbone of our mattress rating system.
We also have testing team members take mattresses home for weeks at a time, allowing them to mimic real-world use. Because our team members represent a variety of body weights and sleep position preferences, their perspectives can help you identify which might be the best mattress for you.
Our Verdict
The Leesa Original and the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid are built similarly, with almost identical thicknesses. If you value being able to switch positions easily or if you tend to overheat at night, both Leesa and Brooklyn Bedding have something to offer. But if you prefer the cushioning hug and motion isolation of an all-foam mattress, the Leesa Original is your better bet.

“The Leesa Original feels comfortable right off the bat. When lying on my side, I felt moderate contouring of my shoulders and hips, and I woke up without any aches or pains.”
And while both brands’ hybrids perform similarly, Brooklyn Bedding offers more firmness options, which may be key for those who prefer a decidedly softer or firmer feel.

“I like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature for its straightforward design. The foam layers provide comfy cushioning but won’t hug you too much, and the coils give you solid support and a nice bounce without creating too much motion transfer. Hybrids of this quality at such an approachable price are hard to come by, especially when you can choose from different firmness levels.”
Pricing and company policies are comparable and probably won’t be a deciding factor unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii or need White Glove delivery, which is only offered by Leesa. Ultimately, though, either mattress would be a good option. The best choice for you comes down to your needs and preferences.
Construction and Materials
The fundamental difference between the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid and the Leesa Original is that Brooklyn Bedding is a hybrid mattress, which means it has metal coils in the support core. The Leesa Original is an all-foam mattress with a support core made of high-density polyfoam, although it’s also available in a hybrid version.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Breakdown
The 12.25-inch Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is offered in three firmness options: soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (8). Each of these models features slight variations that affect the feel and performance, although all three models share a basic foam-over-coil hybrid design.
The soft and medium models have a cotton cover quilted with an inch of polyfoam for pressure relief. The firm model has less quilting, just half an inch. Brooklyn Bedding offers the option to add a cooling pillow top for an extra fee.
Next up is a TitanFlex polyfoam comfort layer, which, again, is thicker in the soft and medium models. The TitanFlex polyfoam provides cushioning and has gel infusions engineered to pull heat away from your body. The next layer is a firmer transitional layer, which is thicker in the firm model.
In all three models, an 8-inch pocketed coil support core adds structure, boosts airflow, and provides bounce so you don’t feel stuck in the bed. The coils sit atop a thin polyfoam base.
Leesa Original Breakdown
The Leesa Original is a 10-inch memory foam mattress with a medium feel, or a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
The comfort system consists of two foam layers. On top there is a 2-inch layer of polyfoam, and below this there is a 2-inch layer of memory foam. Putting the memory foam in the second layer helps fight the sinking feeling that can sometimes happen with memory foam. This helps promote ease of movement and limit heat retention.
Below is a 6-inch polyfoam layer. This layer acts as the support core, providing firmer pushback to keep the spine on an even plane. The mattress cover has a grey knit cover made with a polyester-viscose blend.
The Leesa Original is also available as a hybrid mattress, which switches out the polyfoam core for a core made with pocketed coils. Not only do the coils add breathability and bounce, they also have a reinforced perimeter to improve stability when sitting or lying near the edge of the bed.
Mattress Sizing and Weight
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is heavier and a little thicker than the Leesa Original and Leesa Original Hybrid mattresses. However, you should be able to use standard fitted sheets with any of these beds.
Mattress Model | Profile | Weight (Queen) |
---|---|---|
Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid | 12.25” | 105 lbs. |
Leesa Original | 10” | 71 lbs. |
Performance Ratings
The Leesa Original offers a balanced feel that works well for side sleepers and back sleepers under 230 pounds. Side and back sleepers over 230 pounds receive better support from the Leesa Original Hybrid.
Since the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid comes in three different firmness levels, it offers more choice for side and back sleepers of any body weight. Stomach sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds can sleep comfortably on the medium model.
Couples who share a bed may prefer the Leesa Original, whose foam base stifles movements before they can travel across the bed. The Leesa Original also excels at pressure relief. By contrast, the hybrid models from each company do a better job at edge support, temperature control, and ease of movement for active sleepers.
Mattress Pricing and Policies
The Leesa Original and the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid are priced virtually identically. Both beds offer excellent value for money, with prices on the low end of average for a hybrid mattress.
Each company also offers similar policies, including a lifetime limited warranty and the opportunity to try out the mattress for a few months and return it for a refund, minus a return fee. Leesa offers free shipping to all 50 states, which might tip the scales in its favor for shoppers in Alaska and Hawaii. Leesa also offers White Glove delivery for an extra fee.

What Customers Are Saying
Leesa and Brooklyn Bedding both have high satisfaction scores from thousands of customers.
Several long-term Leesa customers say the bed holds up through the years. The company also earns high praise for its customer service. Shoppers note that the Leesa supplies pressure relief without the quicksand feeling. Combination sleepers also note they are comfortable even sleeping on their stomach for brief periods of time. Since the top layer is a little firmer, some side sleepers under 130 pounds find the mattress causes pressure points.
As expected for a hybrid mattress, shoppers acknowledge that it’s easy to switch positions the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid and that there’s not a lot of heat buildup. People like the choice between firmness levels, which makes it easier to adapt the bed to different sleeper needs. The most common complaint is that the bed lacks edge support, which reduces the usable surface area.
