The Original Casper Pillow uses microfiber fill. While this is a fairly resilient material, it’s known to lose its loft over time. You can expect an average lifespan from this pillow of around two to three years.

On the forefront of the mattress in a box trend, Casper Sleep was founded in 2014. With an initial focus on mattresses, the company offers an extensive line of hybrid and all-foam mattress models.
Since its founding, Casper has expanded its product line to other sleep products including bed frames, bedding, and pillows. Starting with the Original Casper Pillow, the company now offers three pillow models:
The Original Casper Pillow: This flagship model, which we’ll focus on, is a down alternative pillow made with microfiber polyester fill and a 100% cotton cover. Its gusseted design helps maintain its loft and keeps the interior fill evenly distributed. The Original Casper Pillow is rated medium soft on the firmness scale and comes in standard and king sizes.
The Casper Foam Pillow: The Foam Pillow is made with a molded foam core that’s contoured for increased comfort. Its three-layer design provides an inner core of firm, supportive polyfoam sandwiched between two layers of memory foam that offer conforming comfort and pressure relief on the pillow’s surface. The Casper Foam Pillow is rated medium on the firmness scale and comes in standard and king sizes.
The Casper Down Pillow: This is Casper’s premium pillow model. The Casper Down Pillow features ethically sourced down and a chambered design that allows Casper to use a higher proportion of feathers to down on the interior of the pillow, without sacrificing comfort. The Casper Down Pillow is rated soft on the firmness scale and comes in standard and king sizes.
We’ll give you insight into the important differences between this company’s three pillows, including materials, construction, and price. Then we’ll highlight how the Original Casper Pillow stands up to our sleep testers’ evaluations before detailing relevant company policies.
If you’re on a budget but are looking for a slight upgrade from the most basic models, the Original Casper Pillow is an excellent contender. Made with a down alternative polyester microfiber fill and a breathable 100% cotton cover, this pillow performs where it counts. It holds its shape thanks to a 2-inch gusset design, sleeps impeccably cool, and is highly moldable for sleepers who enjoy cuddling with their pillow.
Side and back sleepers will appreciate the Original Casper Pillow’s ample loft that holds its shape to provide suitable head, neck, and shoulder support. Two potential drawbacks, however, are the pillow’s lack of firmness options and minimal conforming ability.
We’ll break down all the relevant specs for the Casper pillows, covering all of the company’s models with a focus on the flagship Original Casper Pillow.
All of Casper’s pillows are available in two sizes: standard and king. However, each pillow contains unique materials and construction.
The Original Casper Pillow is made with a down alternative polyester microfiber fill and a breathable 100% cotton percale outer cover. Both the standard and king sizes feature a 2-inch gusset around the sides of the pillow to help keep the fill material evenly distributed to allow for better neck support.
The Casper Foam Pillow contains a layered, solid inner foam core composed of 77% polyfoam and 23% memory foam. The pillow’s core is contoured to better cradle your head and neck. It’s also constructed with evenly spaced air channels to help promote circulation and keep you cool as you sleep. The outer cover is made with a soft, jersey-knit polyester and spandex blend cover.
The Casper Down Pillow features a blend of 100% ethically sourced down certified by the Responsible Down Standard. The pillow’s construction includes a chambered structure to promote better loft and airflow. The inner chamber of the pillow contains 60% white duck down and 40% feathers, while the outer chamber is made from 80% white duck down and 20% feathers with a polyester inner liner and a 100% cotton outer cover.

Most shoppers will be able to find a Casper pillow that suits their budget, as the company offers a broad range of price-points within its pillow selection.
The Original Casper Pillow is a quality pillow offered at an average price-point. It is on par with or less expensive than similar offerings from other bedding brands. The Casper Foam Pillow and Casper Down Pillow are a step up in terms of price, but the additional cost is fair considering the upgrade in materials.

How a pillow performs will largely depend on your own unique comfort preferences. A pillow that works for one sleeper may not work for another. Some sleepers prefer a highly moldable pillow that is soft and conforming, while others need one that is firm and supportive. Hot sleepers and those who live in warm climates will likely prioritize finding a pillow that helps keep them cool. There are several other factors to consider when shopping for a new pillow, including durability, shape retention, and odor potential.
Overall, there are plenty of benefits to Casper’s flagship pillow model. The Original Casper offers sleepers a relatively durable pillow with limited odor potential and top-notch shape retention, moldability, and temperature regulation.
However, the Original Casper Pillow is not without its faults. The lack of firmness options and adjustability make this pillow limited in its appeal. The other area where we found the Original Casper Pillow lacking was its ability to closely conform and relieve pressure from the head, neck, and shoulders.
Casper Pillow
When evaluating different pillows, it’s important to consider how your sleep style and bodyweight may affect performance.
As the most common sleep style, sleeping on your side helps achieve the best spinal alignment when compared to back and stomach sleeping. However, side sleepers still require a fairly lofty pillow to support their neck and help keep it aligned with the rest of their back. Otherwise, they’re more likely to experience neck strain that disrupts their sleep. Our sleep testers in all body weight ranges found the Original Casper Pillow provided ample loft and neck support for side sleeping. Additionally, this highly moldable pillow worked well when used between the legs as an auxiliary cushion for leg support.
Like side sleepers, back sleepers are prone to neck pain. If their pillow doesn’t provide enough support to keep their head cradled at the right height in relation to their shoulders and back, they may experience painful neck strain, restless sleep, and blocked airways that lead to snoring. However, the Original Casper Pillow provides an excellent support system for back sleepers of all body weights. This pillow tends to keep its shape, so you won’t need to wake up and fluff it in the middle of the night.
While the Original Casper Pillow’s resilient loft was the key to comfort for our side and back sleep testers, this feature was less beneficial for our stomach sleeping testers. Stomach sleepers don’t require as much bolstering for their head and neck. As a result, they typically prefer a flatter, less lofty pillow. Unfortunately, many pillows are designed with the more common side and back sleepers in mind. While the Original Casper Pillow performed well enough, it only offered average comfort for stomach sleepers of all body weights.
