Floyd is a furniture company that produces products designed to be long-lasting and more sustainable due to the use of replaceable components. Floyd sells sofas, tables, rugs, and other furniture in addition to bed frames and mattresses.
The Floyd Bed Frame uses a modular design with birch plywood panels that can be added or removed to adjust the size. Shoppers can also purchase a headboard and/or underbed storage drawers. In addition to the standard birch plywood option, the frame is available with a walnut veneer. Leg color choices include black and white.
We will analyze each aspect of the Floyd Bed Frame, including construction, materials, performance, and pricing. We’ll also discuss which sleepers the bed frame is best suited for to help you determine if it is a good fit.
Floyd Bed Frame Review Breakdown
The Floyd Bed Frame is a platform-style frame designed to support a mattress without the use of a box spring. It stands 7.5 inches tall and has 6 inches of clearance that can be occupied with underbed storage. The sturdy plywood construction is intended to be long-lasting, and the panels are TSCA Title VI certified to verify that they meet emission standards.
With a lightweight honeycomb core and modular design, the Floyd Bed Frame is easy to move and assemble. Owners can add or remove panels to change the size of the bed, allowing it to adapt to evolving needs.
The Floyd Bed Frame is a good fit for sleepers who prefer a minimalist look and those who may change mattress sizes.
Materials and Construction
The Floyd Bed Frame comes with birch plywood panels with honeycomb cores to reduce the weight and make the frame easier to assemble. Each panel is finished with a UV-sealed clear coat. The frame’s supporting structure is made with powder-coated steel. Nylon straps hold the panels and supports in place, allowing the bed frame to be assembled without tools.
The fully assembled bed frame has a minimalist, platform design with 6 inches of clearance. Customers who wish to extend the size of their bed can purchase expansion kits to add panels. Panels may also be removed to reduce the bed’s size. A twin size uses two panels, a full/queen requires three, and a king uses four.

Size Options | Dimensions | Weight (Assembled) | Weight Limit | Underbed Space |
---|---|---|---|---|
Twin | 45” W x 86” L x 7.5” H | 68 lbs. | 400 lbs. | 6” |
Full/Queen | 67” W x 86” L x 7.5” H | 100 lbs. | 600 lbs. | 6” |
King | 89” W x 86” L x 7.5” H | 131 lbs. | 600 lbs. | 6” |
Add-ons and Construction Options
Customers can choose from two styles: a light-colored birch veneer or a dark-colored walnut veneer. The walnut veneer uses wood certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), indicating that it is sourced from responsibly managed forests. Both color selections use birch plywood cores. Hardware color options include white and black.
Shoppers can also add a headboard panel to full/queen and king size bed frames, and those who want to store items beneath their bed can purchase underbed storage for one or both sides of the frame.
Bed Frame Assembly
The Floyd Bed Frame ships in two packages, one containing the panels and the other containing the steel supports, fasteners, and nylon straps. If a shopper purchases a headboard, it will arrive in a separate package.
The bed frame has a relatively simple assembly process and is designed to be assembled without tools. Floyd recommends having at least two people assemble the bed frame. With two people, the process should take around 20 minutes.
Shoppers can select Room of Choice or White Glove delivery at checkout for an additional charge. With Room of Choice delivery, a team will bring the components into your selected room but not assemble or unpack them. White Glove delivery includes setting up the bed and removing packaging materials.
Will I Need a Box Spring or Foundation?
The Floyd Bed Frame does not require a box spring due to its platform design. The panels provide even support for a mattress. However, many mattress manufacturers detail what sort of support their models require. Refer back to your mattress information and/or warranty to determine whether the Floyd Bed Frame qualifies.
Pricing Information
The Floyd Bed Frame’s price-point is above average compared to other non-adjustable options. However, Floyd’s materials and modular design are intended to be long-lasting and adaptable, enhancing the value.
Due to the price difference between materials, the walnut option is more expensive than the birch. Headboards, expansion kits, and/or underbed storage are priced separately.

Bed Frame Performance
The Floyd Bed Frame uses durable plywood to lengthen its lifespan. Since the construction also avoids screws that could break down over time, the frame should last longer than most similarly constructed competing models.
Depending on the size, the Floyd Bed Frame can support between 400 and 600 pounds. Since it produces minimal noise, it should be suitable for discreet sexual activity.
While the mattress’ weight should anchor it in place on the platform, owners can place a cut-to-size rug pad between the mattress and bed frame to further secure it by adding grip.
Who is the Floyd Platform Bed Best for?
The Floyd Bed Frame’s versatile, easy-to-assemble design makes it suitable for many sleepers:
- Those who like a minimalist design
- People who prefer an easy assembly process
- Individuals who move frequently
- Shoppers who may change mattress sizes in the future
- Sleepers who prefer a low-profile surface
- People who want to get rid of their box spring
