When it comes to a good night's sleep, your bed — specifically your mattress — can be your most important resource. But it can be intimidating purchasing a mattress for the very first time. There are many different options to cater to all types of sleepers. Mattresses may be made of inner springs, foam, fabric, water or air. They may be firmer or more responsive to your body. This, in turn, may affect body temperature and humidity, as well as comfort. Mattress experts say that too often consumers believe that ultra-firm mattresses are good for them, but research on patients with back pain found this was not true and a more supple, comforting mattress may lead to better sleep. A good rule of thumb is to shop around, test out the product (but try not to fall asleep in the store) and always make sure the mattress you purchase is comfortable and supportive.
