Joseph M. Ojile, Chairman and Helene Emsellem, Vice Chairman

WASHINGTON, DC, July 11, 2017 — Joseph M. Ojile, MD, has been elected Chairman of the National Sleep Foundation for a one-year term starting July 1. Dr. Ojile is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of Clayton Sleep Institute in Maplewood, MO. He also serves as a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine for Saint Louis University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, MO. As Chairman, Dr. Ojile will lead the National Sleep Foundation’s board of directors, comprised of physicians, scientists, and business professionals.

“It’s an honor to serve as the Chair of the National Sleep Foundation. The NSF’s mission – to improve sleep health – is critically misunderstood. I look forward to shaping this agenda.” said Dr. Ojile.

Also starting July 1, Helene Emsellem, MD, will serve as Vice Chairman. Dr. Emsellem is the Medical Director of The Center for Sleep & Wake Disorders in Chevy Chase, MD. She is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Neurology at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. Benjamin Gerson, MD, Thomas Jefferson University, will serve as Treasurer, and Richard K. Bogan, MD, Associate Clinical Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and the Chairman and Chief Medical Officer of SleepMed in Columbia, SC, will serve as Secretary. Other newly elected members of the board include Helen Chang, RPh, Steven E. Lerman, MD, MPH, Kristen E. Prinz, JD, and Desmar Walkes, MD.
