Planning a Vacation? Remember to Plan for Sleep

Whether you’re planning an extravagant summer vacation or want to keep things simple with a local staycation, don’t let poor sleep spoil the fun. Every day, millions of travelers struggle against one of the most common sleep disorders— jet lag . Studies have shown that the condition actually results from an imbalance in our body’s natural circadian rhythms  caused by traveling to different time zones. Some simple before, during, and after arrival at your destination can help minimize jet leg.

Here are some tips to help keep jet lag at bay so you can enjoy your vacation:

  1. Make sure your hotel provides a quiet sleep environment  that includes a supportive bed and a selection of pillows.
  2. If there is outside noise or other disturbances, ask the hotel if they can give you a quieter room.
  3. Don’t forget to take your CPAP or other sleep supplies  with you! The Department of Transportation’s limit of one bag and one person item does not include medical devices.
