Is Depression as Dangerous as Smoking?
Research suggests that people with insomnia have a ten-fold risk of developing depression compared with those who sleep well. Now a new study by researchers at Kind’s College London as found depression can be as dangerous to your health as smoking.
The study surveyed over 60,000 people and a comprehensive mortality database. Four years after the survey, the researcher discovered that people who were depressed had a similar mortality risk to people who smoked.
The study also found that patients with a combination of depression and anxiety had a lower mortality risk than those with only depression. It is believed that those with anxiety symptoms are more likely to seek help for medical conditions and less likely to take risks.
