WASHINGTON, DC, April 2, 2008 – The board of directors of the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), the nation's leading nonprofit sleep education and awareness organization announced today that David M. Cloud, MBA, has been named chief executive officer (CEO).
“Dave has extensive leadership and team building experience as well as an ability to adapt an organization to changing needs. Coupled with his passion for public health, he brings a unique skill set to the role of NSF CEO,” said Meir H. Kryger, MD, chairman of NSF’s board of directors. “We are very pleased to welcome him to the organization. Under Dave’s direction, NSF is now poised to grow existing programs, develop fresh initiatives and take on new challenges as we move forward."
Cloud has more than two decades of leadership experience from a variety of health-related organizations and holds a Master of Business Administration from DePaul University in Chicago. His strengths lie in the development of innovative marketing and communications strategies that provide organizations the ability to expand their reach and enhance their operational structure and standards.
Cloud joins NSF after serving as president of the Professional Relations and Research Institute in Boston, MA, an association management firm whose clients include premier academic organizations in thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, GI surgery, general surgery, urology, gastroenterology and medical research. Additionally, he served as executive director of the New England Society of Association Executives, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgeons and the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education.
"NSF’s reputation, impressive board of director roster and dedicated staff made my decision to join the team an easy one," said Cloud. "I am impressed by the creativity and breadth of the organization's programs, especially considering its size and resources. My goal is to strengthen these programs so that they have greater financial support and resources; this will enable all of us to more easily and effectively communicate NSF’s key messages regarding the importance of sleep."
