Editor Search

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) is accepting applications for Editor of its new official Journal of the National Sleep Foundation: Sleep Health (Journal). The following information is provided for interested applicants.

Sleep Health will be published initially 6 times a year. The Editor’s term is expected to be 3 years with one renewal term (6 years maximum). The NSF will provide an annual stipend. Interested applicants will be provided with additional publication, pages and administrative details information upon request. 

Position Description

The Editor is responsible for the scientific integrity, review process, and editorial stewardship of the Journal. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Set and implement a vision for the Journal as the global resource for sleep health.
  • Lead the Journal’s editorial process to ensure a fair and unbiased review process for original manuscripts and commentaries.
  • Work collaboratively with the NSF Board of Directors, NSF staff, and the publisher (Elsevier).
  • Recruit and maintain an Editorial Board and a panel of appropriate reviewers.
  • Ensure that the Journal champions diversity of opinion, disciplines, and geographic representation.
  • Actively solicit high quality manuscript submissions.
  • Efficiently manage processes for manuscript submission, review, and tracking.
  • Meet publication timelines and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have previous editorial experience and broad knowledge of sleep health. The successful applicant must have the keen ability to discern significant developments and trends in sleep health. The Editor must also articulate a clear vision for the future of the Journal. Applicant should have an advanced educational degree (MD, DO, or PhD) and have achieved significant peer recognition for his/her contributions to the fields of sleep research, sleep medicine, science, social sciences, or related academic disciplines.
